"Green fly are killing my rose bushes spray the roses with a systemic insecticide thou we had some house sparrows on ours this morning looking for aphids but never take many if they were there yes but other wise you don,t really have much choice aphids are a real menace sap sucking monsters, the sprays should be bird friendly I use one on my guilder rose for black flie spray before they get on I forgot last year and they spread all over but the shrub came back slowly....
tried a spray last year stunk of dead fish didnt do much to help. I shall look it up "
you can always use one of the lipid soap sprays that are totally safe for all wild life except aphids |

probably slugs as the LOVE i mean love hostas..... if its possible place a jam jar with 2 inches of beer in it next to your hostas sunk into the ground so it doesn't fall over and check it every morning as you should find dead or dying d*unk slugs in it and it attracts them away from your plants.... slugs have just started breeding and are ravenous eaters if its them them a few slug pellets sprinkled under the leaves will do the trick |

"Going totally off point....anyone ever grown bonsai from seed? Or any tree from seed for that matter..."
any tree can be bonsai'd its all about trimming the tap root as the tree grows so you can grow whatever you like that you can get to germinate. or find a small sapling lift it and trim 50% of the tap root off this year and then do the same next year and so on |

they should die back to the root stock in the winter as the leaves aren't frost hardy. But if your like me you not seen a frost yet all winter/spring so i still have a summer hanging basket alive... you need to give them a feed about now fish blood and bone around the roots just knocked into the soil |
