I wouldn't normally post something like this but I'm really worried. I found out this morning my step son 42 was taken to hospital the other day where they found out he had a heart attack and has a damaged heart ( my late husband died of heart attack). He has been told that all the boys in the family need to get tested as I have two boys how do I go about this.... Ie do I just make a doctor appointment and ask or what. Sorry if its a silky question but my heads a bit battered .

Yes just make an appointment for your sons with your gp. Explain to them and asked to be referred to the hospital |

If your sons and your step son don't have the same father then they are unlikely to carry the same gene which caused the defect. In any case just book an appointment with your GP/nurse practioner for your sons, or maybe explain to the medical receptionist and he/she will tell you what's appropriate in terms of getting the appointments sorted. |

There is a congenital heart gene that's affects the males on my fathers side of the family.. I took my son to the GP and he goes for a yearly check up to make sure all is ok |

The scans are not invasive or painful. They usually involve being topless and either stickies on and connected to a machine or on a topless on a bed covered in gel and ultrasounded.
Those are the two I have to check my heart function and apart from the gunk from the gel they're chilled out, conducted by pleasant staff and no bother whatsoever.
Just thought it might help to be able to give your kids an idea of what happens. |

I agree with all the other fabsters who are saying call the GP, because of the potential condition they will receive better and quicker treatment. |
