Hey guys
Last week I saw a geneticist and am getting tested for a condition called men1. The geneticist asked me if I have life insurance, which I do not, and told me I should look at getting it now. The results from the tests will take 3months so I'm looking at sorting some out now. So just a couple of questions if anyone can help
1 - do I have to tell them I have been tested?
2 - I have had a tumour before so obviously I have to tell a company this. Any insurance company people would recommend for people with previous medical conditions?

Any insurance will be invalid unless you disclose all material facts. It is the way it works, I am afraid. |

I know that I have to tell them what treatment I have had but I have chosen to see a geneticist, it's not compulsory. My question is do I have to tell them I am being tested for something now? I don't have any results to give them |

Me too, I've never took it out before but now they said that I'm looking into it more. I don't know what cover I should pick. It's soo confusing but it's something I should take out, my girls would need the money if anything happens to me |

If you need to make a claim or if you die of something specific you knew or suspected then it is likely to be challenged. Do you want to pay premiums for something that won't pay out?
See if you can find any non-disclosure no questions/tests insurance.

I don't know much about the ins and outs of insurance except they will take your money in a heart beat but will try to find any possibly way to avoid any pay out so be careful.
I hope your results come back clear and you are healthy. |

The geneticist told me I should take out insurance before my results come back just incase but she told me that legally they aren't supposed to tell us that
I realise I have to tell them about my previous operation and tests I have had since but it's just confusing with this |

I couldn't find anything specific on the MacMillan site but a call might get you further. It may be that your premiums will be higher. It might be better to look at investing some money. You should get advice rather than just buying a product as you are looking to provide for your children. It would be awful for them if something happened and there was no payout. With savings you at least know they are going to get something.

I used to work in buildings insurance, not the same, but the principles overlap. Any non-disclosure of a material fact will see your claim repudiated. It is best to tell them and see what effect it has on the premium.
And you do have FORUM INSURANCE, but they may not take your no-claims into consideration, but I am happy to vouch for this if required, either way, I hope it goes well.  |

Thank you both, I may ring the hospital on Monday and see if they can give me anymore information and support groups that may be able to tell me more. If I do have the condition it's not a life threatening thing but it's made me think about the future |
