They passed a rule to make fixed cameras flousescent type bright colours. I think the vans should be similarly coloured, to discourage speeding rather than trap people via hiding. After all, they only do it in dangerous spots, so prevention and not capture should be the priority.

The clues in the name, National speed limit, single carriageway 60mph or Dual/motorway 70 mph

Street lights with no sign 30 mph

No signs repeated as in 40 mph etc

Would make the road a 60 mph road in my mind !

Or maybe not as she thought it was a 30 mile an high zone.

To the OP....were you going through a village or going in or out of a village? as the road you describe isn't normally a 30 mile an hour zone.

The point for prosecution is speed limit plus 10% plus 2mph so for a 50 limit you would have to do 57 to get done. Try arguing.

"Any street with lamposts and houses is 30 unless the signs say otherwise."

Actually not correct any road can have a 30 limit

The requirements are 3 or more street lights placing light on the carriageway at about 180 metres apart if the road is unlit or the lights are too far apart additional 30 mph signs must be put up to indicate the speed

The 30 applies only if the 30 limit sign is up unless a sign says differently

I always look down a side road, if it says 30 down it the road you're on is most likely to be a 40. If there is no sign then its 30. Only works if there are side turnings though lol

Am surprised that The Powers That Be haven't decreed (YET) that all cars have automatic speed limiters in them to make the cars go no faster than the speed limit for any given road. The technology is certainly there to do it.

OOOPS...sorry, forgot that the government wouldn't make money from the motorist then...!

It's the sneakiness of the speed-traps that sucks. Got done once on a straight stretch of road leaving a village...the village itself was WELL behind me, and accelerated up to 38mph just before the National Speed Limit sign. Had passed NOTHING but field hedges on either side of the road, with not even a field gateway that could have been a danger for well over a couple of hundred yards. A couple of hundred yards further ahead, a copper HIDING in a field gateway in the countryside with a speedgun, focused on the stretch of road just before the National Speed Limit sign...!!! Through the post came a fine. It may sometimes be a safety issue, and I have NO problem with that whatsoever, but when it's just a blatant 'lets go screw some motorists over' speed-trap like that, it's obvious that its not a safety issue.

Im livid because I will take it on the chin if I have done wrong. This time though I know that I had seen the trap and checked my speed dropping it down to below 50. If I was speeding and caught then so be it but I am pretty sure I wasn't and my only suspicion is that the hire cars speedo was over reading. The trap was in a spot that anyone regularly using the second Severn Tolls will know well. If I was speeding then I am livid with my own stupidity.

Brunstrom era?

Static cameras maybe but mobiles can pop up anywhere."

"Im livid because I will take it on the chin if I have done wrong. If I was speeding then I am livid with my own stupidity."

Aren't you missing the bit where you admitted yourself that you were speeding? And so now you've got a speeding fine. Just be thankful it's not a fine for the speed you were doing before you slowed down.

In some ways, Richard Brunstrom's replacement, Meredydd Hughes is even more strict.

I was doing nearly 50 in a 30 zone a few weeks ago after a meet in Chorley at about 2.30am, very few cars on the road, didn't realise I had police behind me until the lights flashed, pulled over and he said '3 guesses to why I've stopped you' I pulled an 'I'm a very naughty girl I know look', he asked if I was in a hurry and where I was going...he then said 'I don't mind a little bit of speed but you were being daft, calm it down, drive safe and have a good night', gave me a wink and got back into his car! I was thinking to myself about how on earth I got off so lightly and then realised that I took my coat off when I got into my car and only had my body/baby doll on with stockings that I've got on in my profile pic!!!!! Haha! All I was thinking at the time he pulled me over was OH SHIT!

"Any street with lamposts and houses is 30 unless the signs say otherwise.

I learnt this on my Speed Awareness course !

Me too

Me 3. I was doing 54 in a temporary 50.

The point for prosecution is speed limit plus 10% plus 2mph so for a 50 limit you would have to do 57 to get done. Try arguing. "

I think you will find this is a common urban myth, it's down to the policy of the force enforcing the law, even with drink driving there are some differences between adjoining police forces how they apply the rules so you could find yourself in court with one and sent off by the other.

When it comes to speed traps and van I make a point of slowing down at least 10mph below the speed limit while passing them safe in the knowledge that I have caused a great que, saved a load of people a fine and most likely pissed the coppers off for something they can do nothing about.

"Just got a speeding ticket for doing 38mph in. 30 limit gerrr i thought it was a 40 limit .i do wish they would make the limit more plain n not hide bloody camra vans sneaky bastards"

if its a mobile speed camera i believe they have to place signs out on approaching the target area and not hide out of sight, although i may be wrong

Not speed cameras as such, but what really pisses me off are those council parking camera cars that park up to catch illegal parkers. they usually do it while parked on double yellows themselves! No, never been caught by them, btw. Just pissed off with the hypocrasy of them.

Them and traffic wardens on their little scooters who also park illegally to dish the tax demands, sorry, fixed penalty notices out. And while I'm at it, so many of them are riding on L plates it makes me wonder if their insurance is aware that the scooters are being used for work purposes.

Speeding, every one has done it at some point, BUT although we poor motorists are a good source of income for the govt, (fuel tax, road tax etc) just remember the speed limit is there for safety!! If you have ever gone to someones house to tell them their loved one is never coming home again, they will never see or speak to them again, then you may just change your attitude to speeding! Today it may be a ticket, tomorrow it may be a life

That's discretionary - I was given points and a fine for doing 34 in a 30. "

Is it? I understood it was related to the acceptable level of inaccuracy in speedometers 10% plus a small margin to allow them to say you knew you were speeding.
