How could fab be better?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Fab is great / don't get me wrong.

Could it be better?

Is it evolving in line with it's customer's views?

Obvious fake accounts and rejoining after being banned - it's too easy to join fab. You don't even need to verify email! It could easily ban the IP address of banned accounts.

Too many men / too few women - maybe join by recommendation rather than keep filling and filling the place.

Nominal fee to join / just to deter the idiots?

Too many messages for women - limit messages from men to unique women? Stop cut and paste messages?

This is just me thinking out loud - but it's a great site that's over populated with too many of the wrong type.

People don't keep the same IP addess. Addresses are assigned from a pool belonging to the ISP. Reset your router and there's a good chance your IP address will change.

I just wish the chat experience was improved...

Otherwise, I think the site, particularly the mobile element is very much fit for purpose.

Plenty of Fish manage to do it - and do it well: once vanquished from there they do everything they can to keep you off I believe. Ip addresses don't reset as far as I'm aware when you reset router.

There's actually very little that can be done to ban someone who is determined to rejoin.

There are services you can sign up to to hide your real IP address and use ones from a different country even. You can connect from a different IP address, from another country, every time.

Not sure what's the feature is called, but I remember on another social site whenever the forum creator wanted to vote on something. They basically had a poll and you could simply click the option at the top of the page and it would say 1000 voters voted and 36% of people said that, etc. May seem pointless, but it saves people reading the entire forum just to see what's the most popular answer as some people go off on a tangent at times.

Maybe they could have a chat feature like facebook so you can talk to the regulars on it at it saves private messaging all the time.

I'm sure they do. I did not suggest they didn't. However giving card details, even for a nominal fee, would stop fake and spammers, and may even deter those that think fab is just a free fuck site.

You are aware wrong then. Very few individuals will have a "static", rather than "dynamic", IP address and usually if they do, they pay extra for it for some reason.

It just seems odd that you can be banned but rejoin the next moment.

The "wrong" sort of people are fairly easy to avoid with a bit of sense and a little effort.

I think there's a limit to what the site should do to protect us. At some point it's down to personal responsibility.

Fab gives us lots of tools, which cover most circumstances, to protect ourselves.

People pay £20 a month on Match. It doesn't promise them a wife/husband.

I find it quite 'cumbersome', particularly the pm'ing aspect and it's put me off using it.

Compared to the chat experience of a 'rival' swinging site, fab's looks a little dated.

Filters, bullshit detectors, blocking, intuition keeps the fakes from our doors. The site has all the tools to make your experience as positive as possible.

Making it a pay site will do little to deter the undesirable element if they choose to be here.

To the OP, why do you feel the need for the crusade considering it appears that you're one of the more successful males in terms if meeting others?

I'm sure they do. I did not suggest they didn't. However giving card details, even for a nominal fee, would stop fake and spammers, and may even deter those that think fab is just a free fuck site.

People who pay to be here may well feel more entitled to meets.

What they feel is a moot point.

Of course it's not a moot point. The more entitled they feel the more likely they are to expect replies, meets and whatever else they want. The more of a pest they may be and the more unpleasant when they don't get what they want.

Just look at the sense of entitlement some have now; the complaints about not getting replies, women being up themselves, the "timewasters" and "fakes" so labelled because they declined to meet someone... And that's with it being a free site!

If POF or match.com suit you better then go there. This is neither of those sites and I think that's actually a good thing!

I think fab works about as well as it could. Making it a better experience is down to how it's used, (and my post before wasn't about "health and safety", it was about avoiding those people you seem to think the site owners should be discouraging from being here. With a bit of sense they aren't a problem).

No you don't. You can join and use this site for free. Paying unlocks extras like the lokked at me list and extra webcams in chat. But the basic functionality is the same, pay or not.

And I'm pretty sure that POF etc DON'T manage to keep banned people off the site. Few IP addresses are static. If you use a mobile or tablet and hop around wifi hotspots you can have loads. Email addresses take minutes to set up.

I see what you're trying to do, make the site better for "genuine" people. But it's all been suggested before and if people took more responsibility for their bad choices then it woukd be a better place as there woukd be less to whinge about.

I'd like two additional features.

The option to appear offline so I can chat or deal with messages without receiving loads of new ones from people who see I'm online.

A better email system so I can see all my messages, not just the most recent page. I'd also like to be able to save my messages to my computer (without having to cut and paste them individually) or forward them to my email account.

I'm sure they do. I did not suggest they didn't. However giving card details, even for a nominal fee, would stop fake and spammers, and may even deter those that think fab is just a free fuck site.

People who pay to be here may well feel more entitled to meets.

What they feel is a moot point.

People pay £20 a month on Match. It doesn't promise them a wife/husband.

With a bit of sense they aren't a problem)."

If you think fab is perfect then this thread wasn't for you.

"We are not customers.

I pay - and so do many. Your point please?

You don't pay to be here.

Erm. Yes I do. Are you disputing facts here? I pay to be here. Fact.

Absolutely dahlink ! x

I agree the free service could be a little better, we are on the same account, different phones, so when apart we couldn't see what each other had said in messages, and ascertain everywhere on the phones, it did get a bit confusing.

Hmm

so the OP makes a thread about how can we make fab site better.

He posts what he thinks would make it better for him.

so instead of people offering their own ideas they prefer to argue pety little nit pickings about why the OPs ideas wont work.

this whole tbread has turned into a do we or dont we pay to be here thread which isnt what the original post was aiming for.

if the site works fine for you then great if it doesnt then offer suggestions.

but all this pety drama is non productive and people just need to stop trying to get the last word in.

now stop sqaubbling and have a group hug damn it

"Fab is great / don't get me wrong.

Instead of paying to be a member to use the site (I'm happy to be a supporter btw) I'd suggest keep it as is, but a requirement of any membership - free or a donation - should be a verified by photo. That'd stop a lot of fakers IMO, not least as it'd mean previous banned users could be recognised.

I live in the arse end of nowhere, so getting meets as a single male in this area can be really challenging as obviously there's less potential meets to be had yet still the crazy ratio of single men to everyone else. So I think it's fair to keep the membership donations as is if you want to, but add that element of verification just to out the idiots a bit. After all, if you're unwilling to privately show your face to a moderator on here, then it's not like you're going to show your face for a meet arranged through here

Updated forum soft ware so it's up to the usual bb standard nested quotes, quote box that shows the quoties name and the little arrow to go see the original post

The pm system could do with updating even just to add pages so you don't have to delete your new messages to see your old ones.

General just bring the site up to the level that these days every basic free forum website is at

"great username btw!

agree with needing to register/confirm email address and i think banning/blocking by IP address would be great

People don't keep the same IP addess. Addresses are assigned from a pool belonging to the ISP. Reset your router and there's a good chance your IP address will change.

Plenty of Fish manage to do it - and do it well: once vanquished from there they do everything they can to keep you off I believe. Ip addresses don't reset as far as I'm aware when you reset router.

You are aware wrong then. Very few individuals will have a "static", rather than "dynamic", IP address and usually if they do, they pay extra for it for some reason. "

True but dynamic DNS usually defaults to a lease of 5 days and also does a check at 2.5 days so when you reset your router you are VERY likely to just get given the same address back again. It works like that so routing tables don't churn too much and cause unnecessary routing updates to have to be propagated out.

The site doesn't need to change too much. People's expectations and how they search for potential partners and set up meets does.

If you don't do background checks on people like checking veris (if any), asking for proper contact via phone or webcam, and listening when people post advice on here of what the warning signs are of a timewaster/fake. Then you are setting yourself up for a fall.

But the reality is you can do all that and still one idiot can slip through.

okay... i am going to play ball and answer some of these...

" Obvious fake accounts and rejoining after being banned - it's too easy to join fab. You don't even need to verify email! It could easily ban the IP address of banned accounts."

so what happens to using something radical which I like to call "basic common sense".... don't just think with your cock... use checks and balances..

to many people think it is the sites resposibilty to do everything for you... its not! you have a role in that as well

"Too many men / too few women - maybe join by recommendation rather than keep filling and filling the place. "

See... this one makes me laugh because that sounds a lot like sour grapes... you want to do better... stand out more, sell yourself better, use all the tools the site gives you to do that!!

again.. thats not a site problem... thats a "you" issue

"Nominal fee to join / just to deter the idiots?"

as others have said... idiots have money as well...

oh... and the grand council (newly formed) had a meeting... we decided you are an idiot.... your barred!!!

obviously some or none of the above is true.... but what would you do?

"Too many messages for women - limit messages from men to unique women? Stop cut and paste messages?"

again the site gives you the tools to cope with this... use them.... or people could get off their arses and be the people who do the hunters rather than sitting on arse and being the hunted....

"This is just me thinking out loud - but it's a great site that's over populated with too many of the wrong type.

"

it is populated by all sorts of people and that is the beauty of the site.. and if it wasn't as good you obviously wouldn't be here..........
