Its not based on a true story...the Coens put that at the start of their film, to lure more people in. They wanted it to be popular, so they put that and it led thousands to go searching, that strip of road, for the loot! Hahah.

I watched it last week, enjoyed it, love a redneck so I'm biased, will stick with it, for now.
