John Matthews, aged 59, had been terminally ill with cancer. It was diagnosed in 2006 and he was given just months to live.
Being a true Brit...he refused to accept this and went out to his local betting shop to place bets on his survival.
He won thousands over the years, but sadly he has just passed away shortly before he would have been due to collect another 10k
