"Do u read it inn your own voice? or what you imagine theirs to sound like?
not on about reading it out loud, your 'head voice' "
I don't have a "head voice" I don't hear what I read so no I don't imagine what the poster will sound like either. Interesting. |

That's because you don't subvocalise.
It's a cracking skill to have. I've tried to learn how to do it. But it's hard changing the habits of a lifetime. |

Yeah subvocalising is saying the words you read in your head.
The alternative is scanning the line for key words and using your imagination to fill in the blanks. This is the skill associated with speed reading.

I've had messages asking if I speak in a Birmingham accent, neither of us do as we dont originate from Birmingham.
But even if I see a location, or I've mstar the person, I still imagine my own voice when reading text |

The majority of people sub vocalise. Some scan instead. The scanners read faster than subvocalisers. |

Actually I do. Gollum, for instance, always sounded Welsh when I read The Hobbit (just imagine 'what has he got in his pockets' in a Welsh sibilant voice and that's pretty much what I heard). I was disappointed they gave him a different voice in the movies. |

"and I also see the days of the week and peoples names as colours
Synesthesia
yep! A completely useless ability
Now we will all want to know what colour you see for us.
I have colour sense with taste. Asparagus is entirely the wrong colour green for its taste and I can't eat it.
fascinating stuff, its the way our brains are wired I suppose. Your name is an oblong very pale colour sort of green
I wonder if my real name would be the same shape and colour?
Synesthesia is fascinating and I like the idea that it is an additional sense.
No probably not, it hasn't been with people I've met from here and if friends get married there married name is a different colour and shape to their maiden name.
Is the same name the same color no matter who it is? My name is Kelly. Does it look different when spelled differently too? Like kelli, kellie, kelley.... I never heard of this and I think it is very fascinating and unique."
The spelling affects the sensation of the word but if I only heard it instead of reading it it doesn't. So Kelly to me is like a dark blue ink blot but Kelli is a pink circle. If I see a person before I know their name I associate them with a different sensation to their name |

"Do u read it inn your own voice? or what you imagine theirs to sound like?
not on about reading it out loud, your 'head voice' "
I'm guilty of reading in the voice I think they sound like most of the time |

My 'head voice' doesn't really have an accent.
Mind you - neither do I really. But if I could choose one it would be a Morgan Freeman/James Earl Jones style voice.
It would be like having a voice over man reading threads for you!

Lol what a funny thread...
So I went back and questioned myself as I read this thread and I've realised you all sound like me - doing an impression of what I think you'd sound like!
Oddly I notice I do the same for men or women regardless! Never thought if it before really. Lol.

I thought we all had head voices - trying to workout how you can read without your voice reading it to you.
If there is something particular about a person, like where they come from or how they dress then I'll do a voice to match; so, a welsh accent (if from Wales) or a posh accent (if there picture shows them in a ball gown or something similar).
Cellerbrate the voices in your head (unless they are nutty - in which case, see a doctor) |

They'd mainly be nutty if you're reading forum posts.

John is a word and different to your screen name so yes. It isn't something I think about at all any more than anyone thinks about how they perceive things but thsi morning I've been really conscious of it |
