I'm not paid to stop someone and possibly have a knife or a needle pulled on me.

Depends.

If it was a big store / national store I would turn a blind eye.

If it was a small shop, like a corner shop I would try and be the hero. I probably would throw a tin of soup at them in the same style of Mick Dundee

"I'm not paid to stop someone and possibly have a knife or a needle pulled on me. "

most common reason for not getting involved but pushes prices up surely

I once had a woman standing behind me in wh smiths years ago who im sure was after my purse so I glared at her and she went but I did go to the staff and pointed her out to them I hate anyone stealing id rather starve than steal

"if you saw someone nicking from a store would you turn a blind eye?"

no and i am not condeming fabsters who have stated the opposite view to my own.

It is however a very good indicator on how apatheic, insular and self centred we have all become.

It matters not one jot whether the theft is from a house, big shop or a small shop, theft is still theft and as such this should not be tolerated.

It as an adverse effect on everyone involved even the thief who may be feeding a drug habit etc.

I will now dig my trench and put on my flak jacket and tin hat and await the bombardment

I once held eye contact with a very good looking man all around the shop I used to work in and watched walk out with a slab of beer. I wS so ashamed I was too busy perving I blocked it out my head!

I have however chased 2 blokes down the high street who pinched a Dyson out of a small shop I managed. I got it back but when they turned to face me looking back was petrified they would of knocked me to the ground with the Dyson.

Yes, theft is theft. 3 strikes, any crime, give them life. That includes politicians btw, zero tolerance, proven to work. NYC crime rate transformed.

a box of 24 cans, usually.

i would tell staff, but wouldnt confront people myself.

not my job.

and, more so, it bringing prices down for the rest of us is a misnoma.

prices wouldnt drop at all

profits would just be that little bit better

Not proven to work at all and is frankly ridiculous. They don't even have this law in NYC as far as I know.

They did have it in California and had to soften it to apply to serious crimes only, because all it was doing was jailing people with mental health issues and the very poor. It didn't cut crime.

Hell no!! Why am I paying out my hard earned and they're not.

But if it was a little beggar child after a little bread to survive then I'd just buy them a loaf. I'm not that heartless.

Yep, do often while out shopping but I was a store detective for 9 years so I spot it easily at times.

Having worked in several retail positions, iv confronted many shoplifters, it's not always easy, or pleasant. Also confronted two men stealing the pushbike out my garden shed a few days before Xmas, resulted in 1 legging it, and 1 punching me twice in the face, I tend to act before thinking in that kind of situation, but at least they didn't take the bike!

Even the rich and famous steal...remember Winona Ryder stealing in that shop....to some it's the buzz rather than needing to steal..

Agree on the prices and profit..

Besides "Most" thefts from shops comes from within, not the public!!
