since the day i was born, many things have happened the world over.
wars
disasters
happy events
and so on.
however, there are only 3 i can remember where i was when it happened.
Diana dying: i woke up, at my nan's, after a night shift to see the news on the tv. i thought i was still dreaming
Twin towers (9/11): i was coming to terms with my nan dying the day before, so was already in a low mood when, again, saw the pictures of teh 2nd plane hitting on the news
and
Hillsborough: i was in a bric a brac shop in madely (anyone who knows telford, halfway up the hill on the high street. used to be someones front room lol) and the woman behind the counter said 'oh my god!' and i turned to see the pictures of people being carried onto the pitch.
what can you remember where you were for? |

I was on my way home from a night out when the cab driver had it radio through that Diana had been in an accident but I didn't know she had died till the next day.
9/11 I was getting ready for work in the pub when my boss shouted down for me to turn the TV on and I watched it all day in between serving customers.
My memory is terrible though.. |

I was watching tv in bed early in the morning when it was announced that Diana had been in a car accident in Paris
And 9/11 I was in a horrendous motorway accident near Oldham lol
It took them neatly an hour to cut me out and In the hospital strapped down in case I'd broken my neck I watched a tv constantly playing footage of the planes crashing into the towers |

I was on holiday in Devon with my grandparents when Diana died. Me and my grandfather used to go get the morning paper together, so it was pretty early.
I was in English when 9/11 happened. My welsh teacher came running in saying to put the tv on. We all saw the second plane crashing
I was in my dads pub in slough when 07/07 happened. My brother and dad had gone into London. My mum who was in wales and I couldn't get through to them coz lines were jammed (like what happens NYE). My mum was hysterical and I couldn't help her or comfort her, which is why I think that sticks out in my mind so much.

It's interesting that nobody is yet to mention 7/7, I can barely remember 9/11 at the time, only remembering that I was sat in a school class. 7/7, I was just walking through the front door of the large corp that I worked for and it was all over the news, a crowd of people had gathered to watch as things unfolded... |

JFK being shot, was a young lad on a camping trip in wales with the boys brigade.
John Lennon, was in a pub in Nottingham town centre.
Diana, I was driving a coach from Nottingham Uni, full of students on the way to Heathrow.
9/11, Still on coaches, in the depot after getting back from a trip to Val D'isere with a ski party.
7/7 driving a truck from UK to Athens, just got off the ferry in Calais so was still getting English radio |

I also remember when I was walking to school when I was 10 feeling the ground shake and hearing a massive bang and not knowing till I got to school and we were all sent home that the marines barracks had been bombed, a 15 minute walk away from where I was at the time. |

Diana, dying I was In a d*unken sleep to be woken by my friend calling saying "she's dead she's dead"
7/7 I was had a few friends round for coffee and we were all squeezed onto the sofa watching the tv whilst I was trying to get hold of my sister who lived in NYC whose husband worked in the twin towers
Hillsborough I had a Saturday job on market stall and we had the radio on and we were just stood listening and wTching the radio in despair, whilst we were packing up. This was the same for the zeebrugge disaster.
7/7 was sat breast feeding my youngest child who was days old just remembering feeling absolutely gutted as I watched the terror on the tv |

"i dont mean remembering them happening, but what you were doing/where you were."

9/11 - Came home from school to see it played on the news. We just got Cable and remember saying at the naïve age of 9 "I never knew they existed". The next day was a 2 minute silence to 9/11 and another 1 minute silence to the death of one of my school peers. She died of complications from Diphtheria
Queen Mother's Death - Was talking to my mum about her, when it then became breaking news that she died.
7/7 - The London bombings. Was in an English lesson that was being delayed due to the panic from the ongoing events. I hardly helped matters knowing my mum doesn't work in London, and tried my best to sympathize, but got told to shut up. Our PE teacher got off 1 stop before the bus exploded. |

9/11 - Was on a plane from Sydney to Singapore. Watched it unfold on a TV in the transit lounge at Singapore before getting back on the plane to carry on to London.
7/7 - Was thankfully not on early shift that day or I'd have been on the tube right at Edgeware Road when that bomb went off. |

Lennon shot - remember my mum being in pieces.
Herald of Free Enterprise disaster- was living in Sandwich at the time where the captain lived. Lots of phone calls to check if people were ok
Hillsborough - was watching the match with then fiancé. Thought it was pitch invasion at first then saw CPR being done on some and medics/police on pitch. Awful
Fall of the Berlin Wall - saw on news with family. Mum n dad crying as they remembered it going up and the heartbreaking scenes of ppl being shot going over it. I said to my dad communism would fall. He dismissed me but I was right. At least in Europe.
First Gulf war being declared - was worried my dad would be sent but he wasn't
Diana - was in car with then husband on way to supermarket. Dj we were listening to was known for sick jokes so we didn't believe it till we saw papers in tesco
9/11 - at home, my daughter was taking her first steps. We were at cranwell at the time. Sirens went n husband called to say he didn't know when he'd be home that night. His job then was prepping admin for forces going overseas. Was worried uk was gonna be hit same day and that we'd be a target due to type of base it was.
7/7 - best friend had recently moved to London n her n her fiancé worked city centre. Worried sick till I finally got hold of her.
Obama elected- cried as it was such a huge thing. Plus I liked him as a politician, still do.
Amazing what you remember.
