Why the fuck does anyone put themselves forward with a hideous disease to be shown to all and sundry on Channel 4? I just don't understand the ethos behind it; if something's bothering you, go to your GP, not the whole fucking nation! |

Because in some cases they get free treatment which they would otherwise not be able to get. And advertisement for those hospitals and dentists that do the treatment I suspect. |

If faced with an ailment that had plagued you for years and the chance of a cure you may just may change your mind.

A lot of the time their GP seemingly hasn`t got a clue what their problem is! |

Quite often they've been to their gp and the treatment they're getting isn't working or in the case of dentistry isn't available on the NHS. I think it serves a fairly useful purpose too, people realise they aren't alone and might pluck up the courage to seek medical attention.
There is also the point that of no one watched they wouldn't make the show. |

good for them for being brave enough too go on television, at least they get the best treatment, lot of times you go to see doctors and you dont get any help. |

In many cases they are told the program can make a difference, pay for private treatment, push the NHS into action and people get desperate and will sadly grasp at straws. |
