Reading profiles.

Do you guys out there think that someone contacting you should read your profile before contacting you?

If you have made specific choices in your profile, do you think that people should respect those choices?

We think they should respect your choices and go and find compatible people. After all, we all want what we want!

We just think, if they aren't read, what the heck is the point of a profile! We always read profiles before contacting people and we think that is the only respectful way to behave.

Your thoughts?

I would say a good fifty per cent of blokes that contact me haven't gone beyond the pics. And as for the couples, well I specifically preclude couples and I still get four or five messages a day from them. Thinking of taking everything off profile including pics and see what happens, but then again what's the point? Sydney university would never pay for that bit of research would they?

totally agree. People should not contact if they dont match the requirements unless its to answer a question privately from the forums for example.

I always avoid the profiles that state they dont make cake and that they dont like a superhero

There are certain things on a profile that are often left unsaid.

Sometimes these don't come out until further down the line

Absolutes like sexual preferences ie: straight should be adhered to. I can understand more flexibility with age but I wouldn't bother contacting somebody whose preferences I did not meet for a meet.

I might contact them for other reasons ie a funny post

Maybe we have just been extremely lucky since joining.

But neither of us can remember receiving a message from somebody where it was obvious they have not read our profile.

Well it's either lucky or they don't like the look/sound of us lol

I always read the profile and if I'm not what they are looking for then fair enough as I know I can't be everybody's cup of tea....before I click off profile always have a quick perv at pics as would be rude not too as that's why they are there ..to be admired

Ok apologies we got a little excited and got confused over who used the word stupid! We had so many people getting outraged at what we said we were confused ourselves. Mistakes are made.

So we would appreciate it now if we can drop this and you can accept the apology in the way it is given!

We have started this thread so we can put over our opinion rather than get slated in someone else's.

After your last comments we aren't really interested to be honest. To coin a phrase, 'we can't be arsed' for anymore.

We would like our thread with our opinion being the topic.

Ok did a small experiment. For about 5-10 minutes all my profile has said is "looking for men interested in testicle juicing" . In that ten minutes had 11 messages six of which asking what it was or expressing an interest, the other five were the generic"love your profile, wanna fuck?" Messages. Gotta love the British single man!!

Certain types of profile turn me off. The bullet point one,the angry ones,the war and peace epic ones and of course those with block capitals. I usually pass them by but can't help wondering do some people with a sense of devilment just send messages to wind the individuals up.

It could explain some inappropriate contacts.

Fair point about the devilment, however we are all grown ups supposedly and not still in a playground.

However profiles sound, negative, harsh, etc, the people who are attracted to that type of profile will understand what has lead to the profile being worded that way.

If not, no worries.

We have met many decent people similar to us at Erotica and at Cap d'Agde so we have our friends, however it is always nice to meet similar people to you.

It is a shame however that some people decide that they can behave badly behind a computer screen.

Please not the word SOME!!

I absolutely think that people should read profiles. It's rude to message people when they don't. I see it as the equivalent of going up to someone at a bar, not looking at them, turning away from them and saying 'fancy a fuck' They are not interested in you as a person, any holes a goal. Oh and in real life they'd get told to F off - on here block and delete. Either way they are to be avoided. Good as a filter method tho

It is totally rude not to read a profile exactly as you say.

Any rudeness that we then send back should therefore be expected.

Like you say though, why not just do the polite thing and read the profile?

Two wrongs don't make a right, however a wrong that is done on purpose is just totally rude and disrespectful and in our world we see no place for it.

Obviously these type of people come from a different world to us so we treat them the way they have treated us. They don't understand respect so we reply in way they will understand.

From the messages we get maybe 25% read our profile. It's not an expectation that people do as we're simply laying out our stall. We're realistic enough to know that people will normally scan pics, might speed-read through for anything that definitely makes us incompatible and then decide to contact or not.

We don't mind either, I've never once been offended, I just politely ask, "have you realised we're out of your age range etc?".

Our profile is there for those that like the info. Most of the getting to know happens after the initial contact anyway so we are a broad church and keep an open mind as to suitability.

Expecting everyone to carefully digest your profile will lead to a lot of disappointment.

We understand it is hard for single men, but do you not think profiles tell you if there are shared interests or not?

If the couple actually were looking for single guys then they should have at least replied, but if they weren't looking then it would be unwanted attention would it not.

To be honest, wouldn't reading the profile mean that we are not wasting our time or bothering people who do not want to be bothered?

I actually think you might be right.

Have noticed that a lot of the ranty profiles listing in serious terms what they don't want etc are the same people who get lots of hassle.

I have a single profile elsewhere and get far more messages saying my profile is hilarious than anything else.

It's clear some guys don't read it but last I checked I wasn't a diva so I just carry on being myself rather than turning anal about how important me and my profile are.

If it was me reading your profile I wouldn't contact you because it says no single men.That is your choice I would respect that.However if I was you then I would block them.There would probably be no need for threads like these then.

When I see arguments like this in a thread - and this isn't the first thread the OP has slated single men for not reading their profile in - it makes me feel less comfortable about meeting up with couples as a single woman, esp couples who appear to come across as rather aggressive, I would not want to put myself in a vulnerable situation. You really are not doing yourselves any favours.

I was recently contacted by a guy who was very polite and sent a very good first message, wondering if I could meet him that afternoon for a coffee.

He smoked, was really short and wanted me to travel to see him 25 miles away. I told him to read my profile as the answer to his question was in there as despite that stuff I've just mentioned, I clearly state I'm not meeting at the moment because I'm recovering from surgery.

His answer was yeah, he saw that but people don't update their profiles so he took a chance.

OP you posed a question, not just had a moan.

You didn't say please only respond if you agree so people tried to suggest what is obvious to most already.

People are flummoxed because you have a simple option that you don't wish to take.

Only some people will read your profile, including your target market. If you have no interest in men it's easier therefore to block men rather than hope they'll follow instructions or in some cases orders.

In every walk of life people fail to follow instructions, why should your profile be any different,? Hoping they'll come to their senses with blocked capitals is futile, they're not reading the content.

Block and be happy, leave the floodgates open and be damned.
