"Do they sell pooper scoopers big enough "
Pretty sure if these Horsy types can afford a bloody big Range Rover and box to tow their nag about they can afford a bloody big pooper scooper or even some one to follow them around and scoop it up for them... |

As a horse owner & rider here's my 2 pence worth. Probably classed the same as horse poop!!
It is illegal for us to dismount off our horse on a road so therefore we cant scoop the poop.
Horse poop is not harmful unlike dog poop.
A lot of horses would spook if their riders had to carry big shovels & bin bags on their backs, which would then be even more dangerous to everybody around. A ton of horse which is scared could easily kill people by accident.
Lastly they dont have horse poop bins like they do dogs & it's bloomin heavy so I would hate to have to carry it with me on a 3 hour ride!! |

We have a stable near us,the horses and donkeys go down onto the beach.
Probably 250 yard or so,however they do have a couple of stable girls come out after them with a shovel and wheelbarrow.

So it was your Horse poo I used to have to dodge around when walking my Dogs when I lived in Conwy...LOL...
Not harmful? Tread in Horse poo and skate into on comming traffic and tell me its not harmful... |

Tthat's where Claims direct comes in handy!
We don't ride on pavements, well us resposible ones don't anyway. If you walk on the road then it's your own fault I like to think that blind people wouldn't slip on it as they tend to walk on the pavements!
Yes probably was my horses poop you trod in lol |

The horse owbnrs should pick it up, dispose of it, or tie a bag to the horses arse and collect it ...
For some reason the horsey horsey set seem to think that they are a cut above and their horses can simply shit wherever they like and the poor downtrodden lower classes should be grateful of the fertiliser
Yeah right !
If my dog shites in the street, I, quite rightly, have to bag it and bin it.....
But horsey folks see to think that its fine for their ride to dump a massive pile of shit and not bother their lazy pompous arses to pick it up, leaving it for everyone to walk through, cyclists to ride through and dog owners to have their dogs roll in and eat the shit !!!! - a bit of sport for the peasents perhaps ?
Really pisses me off |

It is pretty dangerous to get off a horse on a main road to pick up shit.........horses spook at anything, it could cause accidents galore.

Unlike a dog a horse will shit while walking along, it doesn't squat like a dog or cock it's leg, it probably has little idea it is doing a shit.....

See the post below - keep the horses in the fields - were they belong. Times have moved on, we have the internal combustion engine nowadays, horse power is no longer needed |

They have to do it sometimes to get to the bridal paths.
But if they are on the back of the horse and in control of it, then it shouldn't be a problem.......but trying to control a one ton horse by one hand while picking up shit with a shovel wouldn't be very safe. |

having worked with carthorses in the past yes it is possible to collect their poop.
a big sack attaches to their cart. what are we meant to attach it to if no cart? as for riding on a main road, where my horse is stables i have to ride part of a main road to get to the off road riding paths. i certainly dont like doing it but needs must |

Not important whatsover - a status symbol, nothing more, nothing less ! I ride in a small country area, I don't ride along main roads unless it's to get to a bridal path. I only do that when I have to or I'd be grey by now. I wear hi vis jacket an make sure my horse wears hi vis too. My ex has had more accidents on his motorbike than I have on my horse. I like to think I'm considerate to drivers and pedestrians when I'm out but wish they could often be polite and considerate to me. I love my hobby and wouldn't change it for anything else. If a bit of horse poop irratates then apologies but fook it cause I love riding!

Status symbol? Yeah - right - there are loads of people who ride out from stables on horses just for a few hours week because they want to ride a horse - not everyone riding owns the horse - touch of jealousy perhaps? My sister used to ride a friends horse and got terrible abuse from people as they thought she was a snob because she was on a horse! Z |

Would you more pissed off if I tied my horse up to pick up a bit of poop, some twatty driver drives past an scares my horse so it bolts off crashes into your car and lets say puts a leg through your window and seriously injuries you? or would you prefer a little poop on the wheel that can be washed off?? |

We have a National Hunt trainer not far from us and they have horses on the roads most days of the week, it's not much of a problem for us, the only argument I have is that horses should be insured like any other motor vehicle.
As for the horse shit on the roads, it's a countryside hazard.....and a small one at that. |

Personally I see it that if it's on a busy road and I go back afterwards to pick it up I could get hurt myself so it's staying where it is. If I have to go on a pavement due to large van or bus going past and my horse poops then I always do my best to go pick it up if it's outside someones house or on a pavement. I guess I'm lucky that we have lovely people living in the houses where I ride and most will pick it up themselves to use on their gardens. |

Even if there isn't a 'rule' it's quite impractical and potentially dangerous to dismount to clear up the poo - I can't see a problem with the poo myself! Z |

I love to watch women riding horses, the fluid back and forth movement of their hips,as it walks, the rhythmical up and down of their arses, encased in tight jodhpurs,as it trots mmmmmmm!
Noticed though that around 99% of the riders I see are women........hmmm,wonder if there's any truth in that _umour.......... R

"I think if you choose to live in the countryside then you have to put up with the way that the countryside works, why should the countryside change to suit the people that move into it?
Thank the Lord we've always lived in a rural setting, for 40+ years but are not so blinkered to understanf that lfe moves on and the days of the horse are restrivetd to Gipsys and Country shows .
And a hobby for lots of people.
And my dogs are my hobby, but if they go shitting all over the roads and paths, my pet becomes someone elses pest
It isn't against the law for you to tie your dogs up and pick up the poo......it is against the law for a horse owner to do it.
The OP asks if Horse owners should be made to pickup their horse shite ....
This isn't a question of a point of law, more a question of moral responbibility
But if they are not allowed to get off the horse to do it, it can't be done....and even if they came back to pick it up after they had done what they were doing, it probably wouldn't be there by then anyway.
So I suppose answering why they can't pick it up is answering the question the OP asked
So can you direct me in the direction of the rule which states that is against the law for a rider to dismount ?
Even if there isn't a 'rule' it's quite impractical and potentially dangerous to dismount to clear up the poo - I can't see a problem with the poo myself! Z
Try riding through it on a bike, or having your dogs roll in it !"
Yes done it and they have! My life didn't come to an abrupt halt! Z |

Just a couple of points
If you have an animal, you should be responsible for all aspects of looking after it! If when in a town that means picking up the poop, then so be it! If you are not allowed to get off the horse to collect it, then you should have someone with you (on a bike?) to do it for you. It is not for others to clean up after you!
Whilst on the subject, we live on the edge of a town and regularly see children as young as eight on horses, on the road! If, as someone pointed out that they can kill someone in an accident, why are people under say 16 allowed to ride on public roads? It is not like a bike in as much as horses have a mind of their own and can be very willful!

Don't your dogs also roll in cow poo in the fields - or horse poo in the fields or sheep poo in the fields? Can't really see the problem with horse poo on the road and I ride a motorbike and it's bloody lethal to ride through - but I avoid it! Z |

Not my problem! I am just saying it is unreasonable to expect others to clean up after you if you ride a horse! BTW, if you can afford to ride a horse, you can afford to pay someone to clean it up! If you can't afford that, you shouldn't own a horse!

Got to agree with the post above.
Granted lots of folk folks ride a horse but some don't own it and maybe only ride it at the weekend, at the end of the day though, if you have a hobby eg a horse, enjoy it but also be prepared to clear up the crap that is left behind it .... that way everybody is happy
Seems fair to me |

Quite simple really - the pikeys tethered their horses on land which also had public rights of way running through them - needless to say their horses are no longer there |

Perosnally I think if they are going to be using the roads, even just to get to the riding paths, then it should be compulsory........we can't drive without it, so they shouldn't be on the road without it.

Oohhh, would love to hear from someone who, like me, grew up going to the local stables to muck out in order that the owner would let me ride his ponies for free, realises that dismounting (if not actually illegal then and as I used to do it in 70/80/90s when lucky enough to have my own horses, shout into the local shop what I wanted and they brought it to the door) is at least problematic. A dog is a dog, you walk beside them; a horse is a beast with different sensibilities and a very different diet! Horseshit smells sweet and dissolves quickly - if your dog rolled in foxshit I can understand you complaining - you ever smelled that? - but who's gonna ban the foxes?

Farmers have a fuel subsidy as their expenses have a direct impact on the prices we pay in the shops.
Same as the Fishermen, they have subsidised fuel for exactly the same reason.
How can you argue against food prices being subsidised? |

It's the subsidies that keep food prices down, if they didn't you would be on here moaning about high food prices.
When Poland joined the EU half their farmers left the country to take up labouring jobs in Germany and other parts of the EU...it almost crippled food production in Poland in just a few months, that is why pork prices almost doubled in the UK as imports from Poland almost dried up.

That's setaside and hugely important as if you overwork land it will become barren unless you put lots of chemical fertilisers on it, also cross pollenation cannot occur if it's field upon field of similar crops!

love the sound of horses clp clopping along ,they were here hundreds of year before cars on the roads which is still known as the horse road .
The thing about dog crap is it has the potential to spread disease as its sometimes hard to see ,horse crap is massive and if you cant see it ,thats perhaps a worry ...as its also in the road it washes away quicker ..lets not go p.c or turn it into a class issue eh ... |

being a country dweller horses are part and parcel of life and being off a pikey family im used to horses and country ways but a wee bit consideration goes a long long way!
we get horses goin round the scheme non pikeys and non poshers and the local kids mine included will go behind the horses baggin the crap then sell it to the local gardeners it works out good for all but the ones that dont lift it i could joyfully roll them in what their horse drops its not fair when someones mutt rolls through it and it does smell!!
as i said before if my dog shits i lift it as i dont fancy a fine or court appearance and as my dog is a yorkie its not exactly great amounts but its common courtesy!! xx |

Agree with you there, especially when near schools and playgrounds - I love dogs but think there is an onus on us to clear up after them as I would clear up mess my kids made when they were younger. |
