The forums as i see it are where people can ask for advice on a topic, or voice an opinion on something.

My question to all for forumites is ' do you discount people purely on the opinions they express on here? '

My answer is no. I have a few friends in my other life where our opinions on some subjects differ greatly eg the public sector gravy train, politics religion and immigration..I still enjoy these peoples company however and we treat our debates like a game with no winners or losers as we appreciate that every one is entitled to their opinion. Does anyone else feel like me,that we are to quick to judge people purely on their opinion. After just because they dont agree with you does not make them a worse person

Depends, if it was one opinion I disagreed with, then no.

But if there posts regularly make me roll my eyes, then I assumed we wouldn't get on in real life and then I would definitely discount them.

There's some people with opinions I don't like but I still respect them as people. Just because I disagree about one thing they think, doesn't mean I don't like them.

People seem scared to disagree. I think we need all types of opinion in the world. It's all good.

Depends on what it is.

I've met people who've opinions I've disagreed with after all we can't all think the same.

But some people come out with some pretty shocking things that would make me not want to meet them.

I don't discount people. But some do go onto my "dear God I hope I never meet you" list.

I have been known to block people based on their comments on the forum.

If I only spoke to and met people who's opinions are the same as mine I'd be a very lonely person. Although I have blocked a few people from the forums who views I find abhorrent and who I have no desire to converse with at all.

Its not always the opinion that would put me off someone, although extreme differences on certain subjects would indicate there would be no chance of us getting on,its how those opinions are expressed, not accepting that other people are allowed to have one, shouting them down and becoming personal because they can't debate in a adult manner is what would put me off completely

I thoroughly enjoy a good discussion with people who listen or read any counterargument and counter it with arguments of their own and I think it's a shame that one or two if the more controversial posters have gone for one reason it another. I would happily meet people like that if our views were different.

Neither if us want to meet bigots, racists or plain old rude people who just won't engage in equal debate.....why would we?

I have a feeling that some of the people I disagree with quite strenuously I'd actually get on rather well with but it's unlikely they'll let me put it to the test lol.

There are only a couple of people I have honestly thought God no, never. And that's not because of their opinions but how they go about expressing themselves.

I like opposing opinions. Different perspectives contribute to the tapestry of life. However if people behave obnoxiously or if their views display core values I cannot abide I'm likely to avoid contact on here entirely.

Agree, and it is worth noting that the very definition of democracy is to argue.

I love reading (and listening to) other people opinions on so many different subjects - its one of the things I enjoy about the forums here.

Seeing something from someone else's point of view is such a valuable thing and often someones opinion on something allows you to do that. I often find myself reading a polar opposite opinion to one I may have on a subject and thinking 'Yes, that person makes some valid points that I had not considered' - often so much of our world view is coloured by our opinions of it.

Being able to see a different point of view, to allow it to shape and mold our own views and develop a more considered and blended world view is a valuable tool. So few things in this world are as black and white as we would like them to be.

Sometimes people have views that I don't just disagree with but find unacceptable, I wouldn't want to meet them. There are plenty of nice people who's views differ from my own who I would be quite happy to get to know better. There are also some who would put me off not by their opinion but by the manner in which they try to put it across.

This is just another branch in the swinging world. When you meet others face to face and at a club say , doubt very much that many of the topics brought up here are discussed! ( deff not in our experience! ) ... We enjoy the forums However, yes! Have blocked people who we know we would not want to meet, not just for their opinions, but the nasty attitude some have! Wouldnt tolerate it in the "real world" and can't imagin any chemistry with people like that at ! Plus, if honest am very surprised with just how much personal info people talk about on here.. Deff an eye opener for sure

I think sometimes people may go a bit over the top to get there point accross and only their oppinion counts, which leads to arguements,we all have different views, that's the point of discussions, anybody that bit racial or something gets a note wrote on profile

I'm invisible meself say my bit, walk away, mite come back sometimes forget,I'm not in forums to get popular,I'm not argumentative in real life so I wouldnt bother here,if I say something I don't expect people to agree,we are all individuals at the end of the day

there are some people on here i find interesting or funny even though i dont agree with everything they say.

then there are some that i just dont take to because of what they say and they are usualy the ones who are easily offended by other people having a mind of their own.

Its easy to get form an opinion on someone if they act like an asshole on here or suck up and arse lick so I guess with some you do discount some people we do.

It would depend, and holders of some opinions would lead me to doubt sanity, intelligence and moral standing etc.

Overall, if someone is reasonably open minded, not a bigot and is a reasonable person, then they'll probably get the benefit of the doubt, and at least conversing would be of interest.

Most of my friends have similar values, but we disagree on some things, and that's healthy, as far as I'm concerned.
