We'll I am as really pissed off !!!
My mum who's in her late 70's arranged for a guy to come and cut her lawn today. It's a size of a postage stamp and the bugger charged her 35 quid for 15 mins work if that!
Not bad earnings !!
Off at to by a flymo for a change of career I think!

I've told her not to have him back. I'm going to drive the 100 mile round trip at weekends to cut it in exchange for tea and cake. She doesn't like to ask as she knows I'm busy. |

£35 is a lot but although he was only there for fifteen minutes he did have to travel to her, run a vehicle and maintain a lawnmower. I'm sure if you look around you'll find someone who will do it cheaper but no one who makes their living at it will he able to charge a cup of tea and a slice of cake. To me £10 to 15 would be more acceptable.

I have a large lawn and my gardener charges less than £20.
That's an outrageous price. |

To my mind it seems a bit exsensive, Did your mum know the price beforehand,?
I m lucky My next door neighbour cuts my lawn when she cuts hers, she takes my washing in if it rains when its on the line, I slip her a little something when she does these things, now if only she d iron the clothes as well    |

He's taking advantage of your mum..!!
if he's a registered business I would be having a word with trading standards if not speak to him and tell him he's got at least another 45 minutes work to do in her garden.

I'm seeing her the weekend I might put a call in. She lives on an private estate for retired persons so he might be doing the same with the other residents. |

The robbin git!! Sometimes Local Authorities have lists of local trusted trades people that older people can use and trust. My mum has used some on our list. Saves her getting ripped off. |

It does sound a lot, but what some people don't understand, depending how far from your mums he was it could cost him £10 just for the petrol! Working for a company with 260 vans covering the UK, I know just to cover costs the salesman on a journey has to sell £250,000 per year! That's gone up from £150,000 just 8 years ago!

That is excessive, and he is taking advantage. It will always be much cheaper to do it yourself, but to make a living as a trades person, you need to charge/earn around £150 labour a day to cover running a vehicle and maintaining equipment etc., and that will only just about keep you alive. |
