Oooh I use the word. If I use it it to describe a lady or a couple or a picture or a scene in a film or video I mean it causes me to feel sexually aroused. The word evokes something deeper and even otherworldly than just something being sexy or horny. There's a sense of being transported to a different reality.   |

An erotic story would be different to a pornographic story though...it's not a matter of sounding classier. The quality of writing or in video the cinematography is different. Not necessarily any less explicit but the feelings it evokes are different for me. |

Your opinion but the English language is beautiful and has many names for the same thing but with slightly different emphasis not all porn is Erotic and not all Erotic things are porn as said before it can stimulate the mind with an idea some fully clothed stuff can be very Erotic but couldn't be classed as porn and that's my opinion |

Yes, I don't think it's just pornographic, I get a slightly 'dark' sense with the word too, artistic, yes, a touch kinky maybe, but something 'other' about it too, seductive and suggestive. I can imagine one finger sliding slowly along a surface being made into a very erotically charged image without actually showing anything. I guess it evokes mood too sometimes? |

I think you started to hit the spot when you said 'There's a sense of being transported to a different reality.'
I see 'the erotic' as that side of sexuality that is primarily about the mind and the imagination. One thing that humans can be grateful for is the fact our sexual desires and longings are vitally linked to your psyche and our subconcious. Even the most dull witted individual, when they become aroused, is beholden to their workings of their sexual subconcious.
I talk of things being 'erotic' because I find I am very aware of the way my mind and imagination work away to make me feel arousal, and want to be physical, but erotic always starts in the mind.
For me sex entirely devoid of eroticism is just procreation, which has a purpose all of it's own. But eorticism is how humans elevate their sexuality and desires and fantasies to something magnificent. |

I think erotic includes sensual. I find sex in the dark can be very erotic as other senses are heightened. I think the erotic has something intoxicating about it, that draws you in. Sensuality and eroticism go hand in hand for me. |

I think erotic includes sensual. I find sex in the dark can be very erotic as other senses are heightened. I think the erotic has something intoxicating about it, that draws you in. Sensuality and eroticism go hand in hand for me."

I see porn as akin to a sugary energy drink. No nutrition, nothing that will give you long term joy, just a hit to satisfy the most basic, urgent need.
Whereas the erotic and sensual is like a lovingly prepared and made meal, full of spice and flavour, that arouses you with it's smell and appearance, and from the work you put into make it, even before you eat it, and, importantly, share it with whoever you made it for. |
