This place is the font of all knowledge so thought I'd see if there were any experts about.
I'm doing a half marathon in 7 weeks and 2 weeks ago ran 9 miles ending tired but ok. Ran again about 5 days later and developed a dull pain just below my calf. At about 6 miles this became sharp so I stopped. After 3 days it was fine and not painful at all. Left it another week and tried to run again last Sunday but the dull pain reappeared after a mile and I gave up after 4.
I'm sure its Achilles and not calf so my questions are a) what have I done, b) what can I do and c) will I make the half?

Firstly no idea what you've done. Best go see a physio or a doctor. There is a good chance it can be tendinitis. If this is the case then never risk it, because if it ruptures or snaps clean you could need surgery and there may have to be a cast fitted. Your doctor can check with an ultrasound to confirm the tendinitis.
As for the half marathon if it's not fully healed I certainly wouldn't risk it. There will be plenty of others. |
