Went to order some fence panels from Wickes.
Was told "There might be a bit of a wait as, due to the recent weather, there is a shortage of fence panels in the UK"
I'm confused
It's been very windy. Thousands of trees have blown down. Trees are wood. Wood is used to make fence panels. How can there be a shortage!!!!!!! There's tons of the stuff lying on the ground!!!!!!
Or am I missing something? |

Him, I work for a company doing property maintenance for a housing association since Christmas all we been doing is fencing it's been relentless most of the building suppliers have ran out of panels. Not a cheap trick to charge more just due to the constant bad weather. |

Windy = lots of fence panels getting blown down and trashed = a rush on buying them = a shortage!

"6x5 panels piled as high as a house in the fencing yard I drove past today."
They will be the very expensive ones, or the place is waiting till the shortage of fence panels gets worse and floods the market with them. Lol |

Sadly many panels are made in the baltic states due to cheaper labour costs. With all the harsh weather the number of trees felled has been far lower as with muddy conditions and wet ground progress is slower. |

"you cant make fence panels out of fresh wood, it has to season..
no one in the building industry has been running 'stock heavy' in the last 5 yrs ish..
just not good business practise.. "
No it doesn't need to be seasoned |

"Shortage of wood for fences a few years ago combined with bad winters equals a shortage
You could always enquire to the fencing trade and put a the same question to their panel of experts ...."

The same store told me the same 3 weeks ago, but that they should have stock by now. Depends where the main suppliers are based, in part, coupled with the huge demand there has been. If the key suppliers are in a water logged area, then it will affect transport etc. Im not in that line of work, was just asking as an older lady needed one piece. They have talked about raising the price, but too much and it will be cheaper to fly to another country and bring it back as luggage. Sawn up, of course, so I can take it on as hand luggage. |

At last someone who knows what the advantages of hedges are.
