Sandman has some very high end pre- and power amplifiers that use valves; the sound that comes out of the speakers is completely different to using an electronic amplifier.
It's like comparing vinyl, CD and iPod music.
IPods are dumbing down sound as the frequency range of the recording is limited, even if you use the highest quality settings on the device.
