To you.

Nice house, well maintained etc..

Nice car

Nice clothes

Nice holiday

These days it's tricky in fact pretty much impossible for most to have these things..

Nice clothes and house must be first priority surely ??

"Nice clothes and house must be first priority surely ??"

As long as my clothes are clean and hole-free, I'm not bothered. My house is in one piece (ish) so that's fine too. My spare cash goes on holidays cos its the only thing to keep me sane.

I like to keep a nice house, but its easy to keep, followed by some nice clothes, but I do make sure I have enough money left for my only treat to myself, bike racing x

Ok just to clarify.

You have provided for family

Kids have clothes and food

Bills paid and everyone healthy.

U have some spare cash ( lol) as if.

But if u did.

What would u spend it on.

Same options.

Surely none are really that important they're things we put a status value on more often than not, especially clothes. They're wants not needs aren't they?

Shelter/warmth,and food are essential for existence so they have equal value to me.

There was a point in my life when I had none of those having left everything behind save for a bag of clothes. I left the car, the house and everything in it.

What I did have was my freedom and my dignity. Everything else was just stuff - we become weighed down by it until it owns us and we are trapped by it.

"House"

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Only reason for asking is. Our house is over 100 years old and is a money pit.

Jools really wants a holiday but I say keeping house in shape, ie roof repairs etc.. is more important than a holiday.

Our car is like 14 years old so material things not a priority. Clothes most off eBay or in sales. Although she always looks nice.

So am I being a tight arse concentrating on house or sensible ??

Ps glad no-one has said car yet.

In terms of importance to me :

JN

Mum & Dad

Our woofter

Friends

Work / life balance

Then enough money to pay the bills

Enough money to do the weekly shop

Enough left over for treats

Then holidays

Then car

Then clothes

Then house

The last thing I want is the restrictions of a hefty mortgage when a 1 bed flat with outside space does us just fine and is a comfy cosey home to boot.

I had to start again at the age of 35. Ex hubby left me with a huge debt which I've nearly finished paying off. In the meantime I've bought another house, run a car, have the odd day out / road trip and manage to keep fairly debt free. They might just be stuff, but they're my stuff and I've had to work hard to get them back.

Bricks are bricks.

do you have a home..

Or is it a house.

Clothes... Some people just cover their body

Others chose to style themselves..

We all have different values...

If it was me in that situation I'd look for a new house.

As per your clarification of all bills etc taken care of/ what would I spend spare cash on- family fun days. Time spent together having fun and making memories is much more important to me than any car, house, clothes etc etc.
