It was also done on the American X Factor by the couple who won it. Not a dry eye in the house...well at least not in mine. It's a gorgeous song

basically its the singer of the song who is madly in love, the kinda love that would last forever but is just waiting for the same kinda love back from the partner... it never comes so he/she swallows their pride accepts it never will be reciprocated and leaves.

'say something, im giving up on you'

Hmm, that's one way of reading it. To my mind it is a song about two people who are in love but one of whom cannot communicate some kind of angst. Communication is all in a lasting relationship, people grow and change and difficulties arise, and both parties need to be able to open up. If one cannot, eventually the frustration and pain of that can make the other leave.

That's how I see it too and that's why it affected me so much when I heard Alex and Sierra singing it :')

guess thats the good thing about songs and lyrics, its open to interpretation.

Lyrics can be so powerful. I love the thought 'Love is a verb' John Mayer too:

I Think that often we project our memories and situations we are or have been in, both conscious and unconscious, onto them. Then we make our own meaning out of the song because of that. I think that's why certain music can have such a strong emotional impact for some people.

someone said to me 'we listen to the music when we are happy, but its only when we are emotional do we ever listen to the lyrics'

a while back i loved a song because i loved the artist.. my OH at the time bought me his CD as a gift i was thrilled... we ended, i heard the song and instantly hated it and cried as the lyrics were exactly how i felt about the break up..

Songs are timeless, and I listen to the lyrics of most songs, they can take you back to happy/sad places.....I would be lost without music.

Music has a magical, alchemical quality that can transform how you are feeling and transport you to a different frame of mind. Musicians are for me the modern day Shaman

So true!

Im generally a very musical person and people often say 'how do u know that your song your too young'.. i just reply that music is timeless.'

Im pretty rubbish with dates/years etc but 9 times out of 10 i can recall a song from around the same time as a certain event of my life.

The video of it makes me cry lol

The song is actually about 3 different stories, 3 different meanings I guess.

1 is the story mentioned above.... 1 is a child hiding under her bed whilst her parents scream and shout at each other and the most heart breaking is a little old man laying on a hospital bed with his wife as she dies

I'm glad I heard the song before I watched that video, so I could imbue it with my own meaning

I think every song has its own personal meaning to everyone that listens to it ..... the videos just show what the writer/singer was thinking of

I just went and watched it for the first time.

Good song, I think C.A is wasted on it though or its not the right song for her. It dosent allow her to let rip as she often does with her amazing voice.

I think it dosent need to be a duet aswell.

Good song but as I mentioned above, I don't think its as good as HURT
