The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has imposed a no-fly zone over Ireland until at least 1pm tomorrow after the Volcanic Ash Advice Centre (VAAC) said a plume of ash is threatening to drift across the country.
It is believed the ash cloud, currently heading towards Donegal in the north west of the country, could move across the country with north-easterly winds.
IAA's chief executive Eamon Brennan said the authority has imposed a no-fly zone and a 60-mile buffer zone, effectively close Shannon and Dublin airports.
The skies over parts of Scotland have also been closed tonight as a precaution after an increased concentration of volcanic ash was detected in the atmosphere, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.
The ash is forecast to exceed the safe level agreed by the CAA and airlines in the Outer Hebrides tomorrow. |

Until the volcano eiter erupts or settles, its going to keep "burping" so we are going to keep getting lots of ash in the atmosphere.
There was a program on 4 last night where a reporter went there - i missed it but am sure it was a good piece.
Mother nature eh.

I watched a programme on it last night and it was very interesting. With lots of references to previous eruptions and their impacts across the world. Was certainly an eye opener. Previous eruptions it said had been responsible for 30k deaths here in the 1800's and as far spread as Asia and possibly contributing to the famine in France that led to the French revoltion.

There's one thing I know and that's when all the air traffic has been closed its the only time the British government has ever made money out of the Euro tunnel, that seamed to do very well out of it. |

Sanfar that is a really interesting theory. Would not be at all surprised if you didnt turn out to be correct, Yanks have some very odd ideas. Must admit it is extremely odd we have not had amazing sunsets or drops of dust on cars etc. Was lovely and quiet when they stopped air traffic for days last time. I know, Im being selfish only thinking of myself. If I was going away by air I would be singing a very different tune |

getting worse again... they think because of the density of the ash, uk airspace roughly from approx north wales northwards will be closed from about 0700 tomorrow morning........
like i said... if anyone has any problems give me a shout....

My car was covered in dust, my dad warned me not to brush it off because off glass particles in it. The rain the other day did the job though.
Think this time round at least they've made a decision on size of the particles that it'll be safe'ish to fly through. |
