Do people have animals when clearly they can't look after them....or turn them into dangerous animals....

I agree, it's a shame. Licensing seems over the top but some people just aren't responsible enough.

Impulse makes people buy and adopt animals without thinking or thorough research.

We raised a border collie from 18 months, who was moved and ditched 3 times prior. Absolutely sickening.

I drives me mad too. I know a family who get an animal, then get rid. Then get another...then get rid again. They do it all the time and its infuriating. They must have had going in 50 animals. Grrrrr!

Sorry...just jumped on my own bandwagon there. You meant the mistreatment of animals..

Its a disgrace and there should be severe punishment for the owners. Not just a ban...

I remember being on a bus in Brixton and this guy kicked his dog down the stairs because it was scared of going down the stairs while the bus was moving...I understand why the dangerous dog act was brought in but is it not the owners that make them aggressive rather than the breed...Jack Russell's are little fuckers but they are not on it...many breeds attack when not socialised or looked after

I chose not to watch this. I cant even watch the advert with the wet dog in the garden. The one that says bad owner, good owner etc. makes me sad even though I know its only acting. We have had 2 rescue cats, first one we had 17 years, had to put her to sleep, i cried like a baby. 2nd one is now 6, a right moobag but id do anything for her.

I also think the RSPCA should have powers to remove when its clear the owner cant or wont look after the animals correctly...and maybe limiting how many dogs you can have ???

That stupid woman with the staffies needed those dogs removing.......every last one.

I've had Jack Russels. Someone stole my last one so I inherited a Doberman from a bad owner but he bolted out the front door and was run over a few weeks after we got him. Mad he was but loved the kids. Inherited a beautiful German Shepherd after him and she was a darling just like Nanna from Peter Pan

I sat throughout the programme with my Staffy on my knee.

She is a rescue, was left in a house when the owners moved out, she came with lots of issues .......... but we are one by one loosing them.

The programme really did no good for any type of bull breeds.

As for the DDA ....... as it is at the moment is a load of rubbish, IMO the act should be changed and the DEED not the BREED should be acted upon.

I have to agree that stray pit bull showed no signs of being aggressive but because it fell within the DDA it could not be re homed and had to be destroyed...

Watched one programme where someone had set fire to a kitty...was so upset.

I adopted a cat 3 weeks ago and she's obviously been hurt...taking loads of work to get her to trust that I'm not gonna hurt her when I lift an arm up.

Getting there...luv's my wee Daisy cat

Is licensing so bad, perhaps its the policing that is tough to do. There should be some sort of control on who can buy an animal .... Child adoption has lots of controls why not bring some in for pets.

I can't watch the TV when they show such programs, if you've been loved by a pet watching such stories makes you sick to the core.

I think licensing with obligatory micro chipping is the way to go.

That then makes it very simple for the police to deal with an unlicensed dog/owner.

One of the main reason the liecences can't be policed is that the RSPCA spend a fortune on court cases that really don't matter....... £300,000 on prosecuting the Fernie hunt, think of how many animals they could have rescued/looked after with that!!

The RSPCA wouldn't have to police them. If they're law then the police would do that.

A license with obligatory chipping would remove a lot of uncertainty. If the dog isn't chipped the police could seize it with no other cause necessary.

They could include regulations about vets having a legal requirement to refuse to chip dogs that fall under the Dangerous Dogs Act and an obligation to report such dogs to the police.

I know of a few American pit bulls who's owners claim they are a long legged staffy cross.

I think the difficulty with any regulatory action is that really, it would only be the responsible owners who would comply.

you see stories about that on mail online all the time and they show horible pictures, makes me feel depresed.Only recently started watching paul o grady when he goes to battersea dogs home, i never knew it was such a nice place and how well they look after the animals. Makes me feel so good when you see a dog going to live with a nice family and not everyone is cruel and uncaring in this world.

I daren't watch anything like that for fear of putting my foot through the telly...mistreatment of animals boils my piss bigtime. I was the last resort for a rescue cat a few years ago who had been horrendously abused...despite the RSPCA and my best efforts, she was unable to interact with humans or other cats and sadly she had to be put to sleep - it broke my heart

Plus obligatory neutering/speying for all dogs not registered with accredited breeders.

Happened to us, first we knew was when the female gave births to six kittens on our lawn during a horrible winter storm.

Callous bastards had just abandoned them. we became custodians of 2 cats and six kittens.

I watch those TV shows and I wind up sobbing my heart out at what I see, and wish the punishments were harsher.

On the other hand I know when I was struggling with money a few years ago I shared the tins of tuna with my cat. She wasn't impressed with Farmfoods own sausages mind you
