I have to say I lived in London for a while and it was scary how rude people were! Although I did grow up in a wee Scottish village where everyone knew each other! I do however think it's a cultural thing not a personal matter-if everyone else is up there own arse where else have you got to go cos no ones gonna be free to kiss yours! |

I think it's only natural to defend oneself against attack although I chose not to because I think the op is trying to provoke a reaction. I will say that I have seen examples of really rude behaviour and terrifying driving from people of all origins north, south, east and west. |

I lived on the south coast for 18 months....not once when I was out walking my dogs did one person respond to a 'good morning' lovely day/wet day/ whatever day..... Instead you got strange looks like you were mad or had horns....I guess greeting random strangers is not a southern thing! |

Sweeping statements, especially when couched in such a direct manner, are likely to meet with condemnation.
I was brought up in the North East and have spent my adult life in the South West and the South Coast.
It may be the passage of time, or just me being a grumpy old man, but I did find the town I lived in as a youngster to contain more direct people and that the South tended to be more reserved. I would not translate that quite into the OP's terms though. |

Maybe if you knew the majority of Southerners, you'd be qualified to make that sweeeping generalisation.
Personally since moving down here, I have found them to be warm, friendly and on the whole very pleasant. Granted not all of them, but then I can say the same about the Northern town I spent 26 years of my life in. |
