Flowers, chocolates and wine. She never wants anything else really and is happy with that.

I agree! It's the same bullshit as valentine's day. People should be nice all round, just not on one day a year!

I'm going to crochet her something.

My kids aren't really old enough to do anything for me yet so just spending the day with them is good for me

No, just saying if we already have birthdays, xmas and easter, why do we need mothers day.

its just so the people who make cards can make money.

people feel like they have to buy something and you feel as if you are supposed to get something.

if i just got a card then i would think that was more than good enough.

just dont see the point in spending lots of money.

I'm nice to my mother all your round. Just because I chose to buy a card and gifts on Mothers Day doesn't mean I'm not nice or ignore her the rest of the year.

Of course I'm nice all year round. It doesn't hurt to show extra appreciation.

The other little things I do probably mean as much, (for example I spent 6 hours last week making some woven handles for a bag she'd made because she liked something else I'd made that way), but I hope the flowers are a nice surprise. She needs a bit of a boost this year.

I didn't say people should boycot the day, neither did I say people didn't care about their mothers the rest of the year.

I said the day is bullshit. I also think xmas and easter is bullshit, yes. No I don't think people should boycot those either!

I don't make a big fuss on any of those occasions. I certainly don't buy ridiculous amounts of chocolate eggs/ hundreds of expensive xmas presents/ overpriced flowers on mothers day etc etc.

Yes we still do stuff. But we do it because we want to, not because the calendar/ general public/ marketing teams say we should.

I've a tshirt for my Mum but as my sister and stepdad made it quite clear they want me out of their and my Mums lives until it suits them I think it may end up on ebay as I don't have £6 bus fare to spend going where I'm not wanted, posted a card though.

"Any ideas? There must be more exciting gift ideas than flowers or chocolates. What are you guys getting your fear old mothers?"

I didn't answer this, sorry. x

We went out for the day and also had a meal that she wanted. We did it last week because my mum thinks the same as me- that the actual day doesn't matter. What does matter is doing something that she likes, when she likes. (I'm not a total cold hearted bitch.)

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

When she was alive my mum appreciated being taken out for lunch. Time spent with her kids was more important than stuff, especially at the end of her life. And when she couldn't get out we would cook for her and have a meal at home.

LONDON (se)

I recently started making jewellery so I have made mine a nice keyring as I have very little money this year. She doesn't wear jewellery otherwise I would have made a nice set for her. She isn't expecting anything so will be a nice surprise for her.
