you could call yourself any of them if you wanted to. I would have liked to call our daughter Portia but we knew too many people would think it was Porsche. |

I recall when 'old fashipned' names such as Jack and Stanley and Ruby became popular again. I think the fashion for name is cyclic, so at some point the Keiths, Kevins, Deborahs, Tracey and Sharons will be fashionable again.
Steve, is of course, a timeless and elegant name. |

You're all bonkers. These poor children just want to be called Jack, Bob, Clare or Sophie. We can't go naming them after our favourite TV characters or the places they were conceived. It's very important for children to fit in, there's enough worry about the first day at school without the fear of the piss being ripped out of you for having a daft name.

My son has an unusual name, which is Nordic. I love it, it suits him down to the ground and he won't be one of many in his year group. But on the shortlist was:
Thor
Perseus
Conan
If he were a girl:
Aliena
Andromeda
Astrid |

I was talking to my eldest a couple of weeks ago about the names I'd given him and his siblings and told him I went with 'normal' and not the unusual or made up names often associated with black or mixed race children as I wanted my own to be taken seriously. His response? "Which Lord knows is appreciated!!!" |

I have a child I work with who is indeed called Aragon. He gets laughed at all the time it's awful.
Iovd names that are a bit different and my daughter has an unusual name and she lines it cos she's the only one in the whole school but it is nice and not completely weird. |

That has never happened at my nephews' schools. We're in such a multi-ethnic area that kids don't pick on each other for having unusual names.

A friend of mine named one of his kids Bleyd...
And another friend just had a kid and named him Colter.
It's just sentencing your child to a lifetime of having to spell their name to people ALL the time. |

How is 'Bleyd' even pronounced? Poor sod will have a lifetime of spelling that one out. |

Various friends of mine have named their kids:
Xena - Yes after Xena the warrior princess
Dolly - I like this
Katia - Army friend heard name in Afghan or Iraq and liked it
Phoenix - Not sure if after actor or what..
Cassady - Can't stand the name myself
Beau - and the kids surname is Butler... poor child
Me if I ever had kids I'd go for
Sebastian, Chester, Trixie, Betty... |

My oldest child nicknamed my youngest Titch, it stuck over the years only he's six foot three and towers over all of us, still raises eyebrows when we're out and we all call him Titch and he answers to it. |

Victorians had a fashion to find unusual names for their children and there are numerous cases of Cucumber, Mustard, Mayonnaise and Cocoa becoming quite common. Things that appeared in that era.
So perhaps we should think the things of the 21st Century and use Twitter, Drone, GeeEm, Apache, Hadoup and Apps ... Just kidding.
Bodicia, Napoleon, Gengis have not been used for a while, unless for animals ...

Georgia and Dylan for a girl, and something Andrew, and Sky for a boy.
I've always fancied naming my children names in songs so I can sing their names at them
I would love to call a son after Marc Bolan but I went to school with a Marc who was a dick so it's put me off. Might have to go with Bolan instead |
