Are they not? I ask because it seems that some people take it all very seriously, noting down people's comments in order to refer to them in different threads days/weeks later, pointing out the conflicting opinions with a smug smile on their face. I've posted a lot this week because I am off work on annual leave. I try to have fun, maybe pose a contentious opinion or question in order to stimulate debate and maybe make people question what they've always held to be true and may, in fact. not be.
Sometimes though I just feel like being facetious or ribald, sometimes someone else posts something that really gets my goat and as a life long know all I cannot bear not to put them right. I try not to join in with the bullying that sometimes occurs, hard to do that though as the pull of mob mentality is a strong one.
But mainly I use the forums as a moderately amusing pastime, whilst waiting for the kettle to boil or hubby to walk through door.
Ok diatribe over, go about your business, nothing to see here |

I treat the forums as fun, but I always note the forum title and "behave accordingly" lol
I tend to avoid the threads I know are going to kick off. Anything involving politics, race, or current news stories such as the high profile prosecutions for paedophiles are a no go area for me. They often tend to morph into something totally different from the original subject and there seem to be members just waiting for a fight.
I love the light hearted ones about "bums" or "why can't I get laid?"lol |

Forums are just a bit of banter and fun and yes we cover all sorts here why I like it . But if ever it starts to get at me I step away and turn off . And words can cut you like a knife but what people give out they get back I find here . And if some get nasty and others start the mods step in a give time out and at time its called for as people need to see this is not real life but cber land and just a bit of fun. |

Just so you know (cos I didn't for ages) if you click on the little green arrow by a person's name it takes you to a list of all their recent posts, so people may actually not be taking notes!! |

If you're going to give it, prepare to take it.
You have said nasty and personal stuff to people, whether you've intended it as fun, who can tell.
It's recognising when your behaviour is less than exemplary that might be the key. I have, and have apologised when I think I've been wrong.
No use playing the innocent, anyone can find your post calling women low-life whores (amongst other gems) by clicking on your previous posts.

My biggest gripe with this site is people who argue or have little digs in the forum... Just have a bit of fun and be light hearted... The only thing I will say is... I think you see people's true personality in the forums!

I like the green arrow... Personally,
And if someone's using the forums to get around a block then just report them. It's not stalkerish at all it's just so you can see what people post. |

What would be the point of that? That isn't fun, that's taking it all a bit seriously. I don't really care what Ron or whoever said on a completely unrelated post three weeks ago because these people are not important to me, this isn't real life, its killing time til the kettle boils |

You have to post on the forums in such a way that proves you are better than the other people unless you want to impress a person so they will sleep with you, then you say whatever you think will please them.
Being smug (a bit like I am here I guess) really helps and if in doubt, put a reactionary, badly spelled half baked opinion up which to any right thinking person will make you look like a right twat but gives you a tangible moral standpoint which you can defend to the last and most importantly NEVER EVER admit that you were wrong or someone has changed your mind with reasoned argument and discussion.
Oh and an air of sarcastic superiority is useful too.

Let's start a thread about an immigrant feminist member of UKIP who has been accused of molesting Tony Blair when he was a member of the young Labour movement (aged 15 should do it), who also thinks that the RSPCA is a waste of space (that should get some proper abuse going) |

I think the forums have helped me to become more tollerant of other peoples _iews, initially when I started posting I used to get uptight and sometimes reply and react to some peoples attitudes, But after reading other contributers poits of _iew and how they manage to _iew things from a different perspective has made me think through alot more.
I am by no means totally cured as as I am sure some have noticed from my postings that I do sometimes get on my high horse, but this is becoming less frequent now. |

actually OP, you post like a 'returner' rather than a 'newbie', aplogies if I am wrong.
people love to be outraged and certain subjects will hit the reaction button for some, there will be an alarming difference depending who posts the OP, male or female, regular or newbie.... and once blood is sniffed...... it is a feeding frenzy. |

I think people use the green arrow as a 'consistency check' - rather than a deliberate means to have a dig.
It can be a useful tool in certain situations if someone is posting a statement the total opposite of previous comments. Or having a go at someone for something they've said/done that they've said/done themselves recently.
It's less useful for seeing the previous posts of regular forum users as it only shows the last 35 threads - but it is often amusing when you see patterns develop and strange cases of 'amnesia' when people forget their own previous comments!

But why should people remember their comments, it isn't important that they are consistent, they aren't running for president, they're posting on a sex site. At the risk of being accused of taking this all far to seriously I am going to assume that the beginning of your initial paragraph was making reference to me (at the risk of sounding egotistical).
I merely asked in another thread today whether your initial post was intended as ironic as it totally contradicted the several posts you made TWO days earlier on another thread, a fair question I felt given the insulting way you spoke about women and forumites in general in that particular thread.
I defy anyone who reads my posts (including later posts on the thread earlier this morning to which I assume you are referring) to state that I take it all too seriously, I am a free thinking, reasonably intelligent woman who posts when I feel I have something relevant to say.
I enjoy the forums, I am happy to accept that everyone has different opinions and _iews and I have taken my fair share of criticism for posts I have made in the past, on occasion unfairly since my posts have been misconstrued or taken out of context but as an adult I accept that these things happen and I have also PM'd posters privately to apologise if I think I may have caused offence.
I do not think I have intentionally made spiteful or disparaging comments about anyone or treated anyone in a derogatory manner. Feel free to check the green arrow and prove me wrong - I do not claim to be perfect!! |

I guess people like to see consistency in _iewpoints, opinions and statements to establish whether someone is being honest and genuine, sucking up and ass kissing (see the 'white knights' thread for example) - or deliberately being controversial and generally shit stirring!
You wouldn't put much faith in someone slating barebackers who had previously expressed a love of unprotected gangbangs. You wouldn't respect the _iews of someone who'd declared all women over a size 16 unattractive and undeserving of being on site who then proceeded to virtually shove his nose up the arse of a BBW on a thread. You wouldn't be too keen on someone who messaged you requesting a meet claiming to be single who then posted on a thread asking how to get his wife interested in swinging.
The forums are fun. They can be a home for serious discussion too.
And they can also provide a host of useful insight into people.

Sorry didn't want to quote the whole lot and don't know how to do that. I don't care if people are honest or sucking up on here because they're never going to be important in my life. Controversy is good, it makes people think and as the great Sulvester Stallone once said:
I used to tweet, but it's an act of futility. You're not really making any impact, and if you find yourself in a mood when you wanna be a bit controversial and you post something, you suddenly realise, 'Oh my God!' because you've opened yourself up to a bunch of criticism from strangers.

Just so you know (cos I didn't for ages) if you click on the little green arrow by a person's name it takes you to a list of all their recent posts, so people may actually not be taking notes!!
try it. See if you can find specific things and remember who said what "
I have before, when people have referred to past conversations. It's easy if the person has started a thread. I would not bother myself - each day's trouble is enough for me!!

"Where is the forums? Sounds good.
Oooh Funky: your arse is still looking soooo good!
Some people need to get a life if they take any of the nonsense written on here seriously...apart from Funky of course: I so would!...but I digress!
As always Miss_tress my ego swells at your compliments as much as I am racked with fear at the thought of what you would do to my bottom if you ever got hold of me.
Still can't get over how sweet and innocent you look though. "
No one will believe you that I look sweet and innocent. You're a handsome man, but I cannot lie I'd luuuuurve to get my hands on your arse...sorry for hijacking op...Funky's fault! |

Forums are fun, when i started out i was probably melodramatic, paranoid, read into things that werent there, i played the victim and was pretty much a gob shite know it all (when in fact i knew nout)
These days i read and participate in light hearted threads. I start a few off but mainly a contributor these days. If i dont like whats being said its just a forum.. i log off and chill out.

For me I like controversial debates, but people do take forums too seriously, saying that some of the look at me, I can't get laid I consider to be school ground behaviour.
Is it just me threads too as if they're the only ones!!!
Forums are fun, but take everything with a pinch of salt.

"You have to post on the forums in such a way that proves you are better than the other people unless you want to impress a person so they will sleep with you, then you say whatever you think will please them.
As is hypocrasy ooo my spelling may be crap but everything I say is from the heart . I am no twat do you know that's a fish having babies ? oo and do you spell hypocrasy like that ? There s a i in it i think."
It escaped my initial _iew but a twat is not a fish having babies. Fish lay eggs. It is an urban myth. |

"This is going well.
and not quite to plan I'd say!
There wasn't really a plan, just trying to gauge how many on here take the forums too seriously. It would appear its quite a few, sitting there cross referencing, trawling through a 180 post thread to find one that they may be able to use to have a dig at someone. Oooh kettles boiling xxx
A
But why should people remember their comments, it isn't important that they are consistent, they aren't running for president, they're posting on a sex site. Being able to argue or debate a _iewpoint which differs from your own is a very good thing to be competent at, hell they used to make us do it at college
A"
Totally agree with this. Personal values I rate highly in others include integrity and conviction and the posters who bore me most on here are undoubtedly the shallow fickle ones constantly courting popularity. Dull in the extreme.

see... that almost sounds like the thread was started to take "digs"....
well then isn't the purpose of the thread not as it seems.... it "could" be seen as an attempt to rile people.... to troll for your own entertainment?
I like the green arrow... it can give you a much more rounded side to a person then let say a profile would do on its own.....
see who's opinions blow around like the wind... to say something to be on the right side of an arguement so to speak...
see... not everyone likes or does the "fluff" threads.. so people do, and I leave them to it...
but if i see a thread that peaks my interest.. i'll post.. post and be damned!... but it will be an opinion I believe in
not to take a position just to stir controversy or rile people.. it will be mine..
some may like it, others not! i don't think it means I take to forums seriously... but it means I treat peoples _iews with respect... and if i disagree, I'll say why.......

the whole problem with forums on these kind of sites is that you will have the ones that stand staunchley for what they believe, and will say it time and again, in varying different threads, and these are the ones that stick in your mind, as its the same thing time and again.
then you have those that will change their opinions, depending on who is posting (or what sex), and turn so often i swear they or either politicians or cant move as they are knee deep wherever they are standing.
and then, you have the ones that just post to be insulting/inflammatory and then cry about being bullied.
forums are a cross section of society and you will never get all to agree, not as long as people have arseholes.
just live with it, or ignore it.
either way, welcome to the forums |

"Are they not?
Ok diatribe over, go about your business, nothing to see here "

Some people troll
Some people post things just to piss people off but pretend they are innocent
Some people just read
Some people learn new things
Some people like banter
Some people share their lives online
Some people flirt and smile
Does it really matter? As long as people are doing what they like then surely it's all good.
If I got upset about what strangers on the internet think of me... I'd give my head a wobble. |

Sometimes the people who are "taking things too seriously" are doing just that. Sometimes they are having a bad day. Sometimes they've said something that's been misunderstood.
Some like debate. Some have certain subjects that they are passionate or sensitive about. Some like causing trouble, stirring and upsetting people. Some have failed to get the attention they want on the site so resort to contentious posts and nasty comments to get noticed, (based on the theory that there's no such thing as bad publicity). |

I enjoy the serious and contentious threads more than the whimsical types, not because I'm an argumentive git (though I have my moments) but I prefer something a little more thought provoking, There are threads for all tastes here.
I dont look at the green arrow unless someone has pointed it iut in a thread. I dont think people use it to stalk but to see if a poster has a pattern or trend to their comments and this can give an insight to their _iews for eg, if you see a poster starting and commenting on BBW threads, making crass remarks, uiu get an insight that the person is offended by the larger lady.
I also agree that if you make inflammatory remarks then people will respond the same. Your comments OP about 'being a know all and you feel obliged to respond in a certain way is all very well, but I, for instance, wouldnt let you make such a comment to me without challenge, and other posters are the same.
The forums are fun, and it is possible to give a balanced _iew without resorting to insults. |

"My biggest gripe with this site is people who argue or have little digs in the forum... Just have a bit of fun and be light hearted... The only thing I will say is... I think you see people's true personality in the forums!
Some people come across as they actually are, some are different in person and some intentionally pretend to be other than who they are. It's the same on most internet fora and message boards.
I pretend to be Beyonce ... uh oh oh oh oh oh oh "

Before I address the OP I must address this: I hate cunt being used an insult. I have a cunt and I love it but that does not make me a cunt (in the insult way).
OP, this appears to be a taking the forum seriously thread.

"the whole problem with forums on these kind of sites is that you will have the ones that stand staunchley for what they believe, and will say it time and again, in varying different threads, and these are the ones that stick in your mind, as its the same thing time and again.
then you have those that will change their opinions, depending on who is posting (or what sex), and turn so often i swear they or either politicians or cant move as they are knee deep wherever they are standing.
and then, you have the ones that just post to be insulting/inflammatory and then cry about being bullied.
forums are a cross section of society and you will never get all to agree, not as long as people have arseholes.
just live with it, or ignore it.
either way, welcome to the forums"
You'll have to come up with some more classifications as I couldn't categorise myself. |

When people have gotten to know how the forum works, we tend to remember firestarters, and people who just wanna wind up, in negative way, same as funny people, quirky people, sexy people etc.... its partly how I use the forum, and will continue to do so.
People take serious subjects too trivially, some take trivial subjects too seriously...use the forums how you want to use them ....... |

"Are they not?
Ok diatribe over, go about your business, nothing to see here "

Just so you know (cos I didn't for ages) if you click on the little green arrow by a person's name it takes you to a list of all their recent posts, so people may actually not be taking notes!!"
That's really interesting, I never knew that, thanks! |

What is the difference between using cunt as an insult and using dick, cock or prick? Those 3 are often seen as much more acceptable but are using colloquial terms for genitals as an insult. |
