Why refer to them all by their Chaser name except for Anne to whom you give a derogatory, disrespectful name?

What is it about those who need to put down and disrespect intelligent women?

More have an issue with intelligent, capable women. I think they feel threatened and emasculated.

It shows a lack of confidence and self-assurance

So you don't think "the beast" is a derogatory name, or is it just because he's male it's ok? "Frosty knickers" is listed on Wiki as one of Anne's recognised nicknames.

Sinner Man has grown on us, love his witty reposts.

We've noticed the best one to be up against in the final chase is The Dark Destroyer.

He's lost the most finals, get him flustered and he seems to crumble!

The Beast is his chaser name, used on the show. The names used for the other men are their titles on the show.

Anne is The Governess. It may be a nickname but it's a different and more derogatory way to refer to her than her chaser name.

It seems to me to be an effort to "knock down" an intimidating woman; to take her less seriously.

He's not used nicknames for the guys though. They all get their titles. Only Anne gets a dismissive nickname in place of her chaser name.

Why the difference in how the woman is referred to compared to the men is a fair question.

Typical attitude to an intimidating woman though.

Either way, the woman is never offended when the name is used so I am not sure why anyone else should be

It's not so much the name as the need to treat her differently.

Women deserve as much respect for their talents and abilities as men get. They shouldn't accept being marginalised and degraded by those who feel intimidated and emasculated.

PS I know them as the white suit man, Frosty knickers, the lawyer and the beast...and am not intimidated by any of them.

To the OP , I like The Beast, I love it when he is up against it as he gets annoyed when he thinks he is going to lose.

Whether the women accept it and get on with things or live with it and get on with things doesn't make it right.

Some women used to put up with not being allowed to vote.

Women deserve respect for their talents. We deserve equal pay for equal work. We deserve equal prospects in the workplace as men have. We get none of these things.

So I'll carry on drawing attention to and questioning it when women are disrespected and disadvantaged.

The show is entertainment but the attitude that it's fine to show respect for male chasers but to be dismissive of the female one isn't very entertaining. It demonstrates a common attitude to women in society.

It's overly-PC to expect women to get the same respect and regard as men? Righto.

As for what Bradley calls Anne, he also calls her the Ice Maiden, which suggests strength and cool. It's rather more respectful than Frosty Knickers. But the OP chose the nickname which least suggests strength and is instead flippant and derisive.

And the O.P most probably meant no disrespect to Anne whatsoever and said it in the same light hearted manner that Bradley does nightly.

Do guys go off on one when people say things that could be deemed disrespectful about them? No, we have come to take it for (the most part0 what it is, light hearted banter.

Like Trace has said on many occasions, "The insulting things men say to each other and that women also say to them, would have many women breaking down in tears or contemplating suicide!".

It's time some women learned to take it for what it is, the same as men do, and accept it as nothing more than light hearted banter, rather than as perceived "flippant" and "derisive" insults where in fact there are none.

Maybe then we can once again enjoy innocent threads without turning them into a battle of the sexes!

Casual sexism is not acceptable. Women deserve the same respect and regard as men.

If the OP posted without even realising he was treating Anne differently it just goes to show how deeply ingrained it is to belittle capable women.

It's not uncommon to see casual disregard for women in posts on here. Take the recent post about International Women's Day. That day is intended to highlight the plight of women who suffer abuse simply for being women. On here it was made clear that some think it's a day for women to "celebrate" their sexuality. Because we can't be anything other than sexual objects.

The man who posted that intended no harm but again demonstrated the casual disregard of women as people and to their right to respect and equality.

It's taken as read that the men get respect. Look at their Chaser names. All indicate strength and ability. Then there is "Frosty Knickers" which is in no way suggestive of a strong, serious, capable woman. Other, more respectful nicknames for Anne exist, but the most dismissive one was used.

It should be challenged, not just accepted.

Whatever men have to tolerate, they are accepted as leaders and as strong, capable people far more easily than women. They are far less often portrayed as or regarded as objects. They have far fewer limitations in terms of access to high level jobs than women with equivalent abilities. They frequently earn more than women in exactly the same role with the same responsibilities.

I, personal, disagree that men have it much harder than women in terms of derisive comments and attitudes. I do, however, realise my perspective is that of a woman so I can't be objective.

Yes, it's all I needed to say but it's not all I wanted to say.

I do take exception to casual sexism though and I'm true to my beliefs, whether they are popular with others or not.

I stand up for what I believe in, and that is that women deserve the same respect for our abilities as men.

Some men are threatened by strong, capable, intelligent women and seek to oppress them as a result.
