Yeah I don't know what to think either. Maybe death row isn't the best thing. A second of madness leading to your execution seems wrong in some cases

Has it just started or will it be pointless watching if I put it on now?

The second inmates story is quite interesting. Because he made a big mistake which has meant he is now on death row. I look at his story and to me, he doesn't seem a danger to society so why is he being killed? Admittedly I don't know him but there must be people like that on death row who have learnt from mistakes

The laws in Texas are strict, the first guy murdered one and nearly killed two more, you live by the sword you die by the sword, they knew what they were doing was wrong.

True, but second guy shot someone dead in moment of madness at 19. He regretted it and showed empathy. No previous record either. And he going to be killed. Seems harsh to me

How and why did you start writing to him? Was it through one of those charities?

Punishable by death in Texas, you live by the laws of the land. Rape, murder and attempted murder..the judge saw fit to sentence two guys to death.Harsh laws, maybe but laws they are.

A friend was writing to another prisoner in the states and the guy I started writing to wanted a pen friend so I started writing him..he used to send me art work which I still have somewhere....a very good artist. It all got a too much he was writing letters everyday and while I felt for the guy somewhat I did not want to get sucked into it...if that makes any sense...

The people in this I really feel sorry for are the families of the victims and the survivor of the first attack. The two men executed committed a heinous act and whilst I may not be totally sure about whether I agree with the death penalty, as Femme said, they are the laws of the state.

I really don't think either of the murderers showed any remorse for what they had done.

When the second man drew a gun he chose to take the man's life, as did the first man when he and his friend committed something so horrific.

As for the man's comment about being treated like an animal, honestly I think he behaved like one by killing someone, by taking someone's life.

Oh right. So why did you want to be his pen pal? Many people wouldn't do that.

I can't understand why they're on it for so long, once sentenced why not just shoot em, save the tax payers money.

I thought it was a good, well balanced programme. If you sit on the fence where the death penalty is concerned, it would be difficult to make a decision for or against, after watching this.

Yeah I agree. If anything, it slightly pushed me towards not having death penalty.

A really well made documentary that allowed you to make your own mind up on the death penalty, sadly with BBC3 going the 18-30 target audience won't have documentaries like this.

I'm pro capital and pro corporal punishment; living in Singapore shows that it can work

The first guy deserved everything he got. I'm also struggling to find much empathy for the second guy. As stated in the programme he and his friends had been out all day robbing people at gunpoint, that to me shows intent. His victim announced he was a police officer and he shot him in the face as he was producing his badge. You could say it was a moment of madness but his defense of " I thought he was going for a gun" is moot, the officer wouldn't have simply shit him out of hand over a broken windscreen.
