Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!
...my phone has suddenly stopped working completely. It's an android phone (Samsung Note) and it went to update my whatsapp. Said that my memory was full and then it crashed!
So, tried turning it on and off. Now it turns on but gets stuck when it says 'Samsung Note' when you turn it on.
Now, knowing my fucking luck i bet i've lost all my contacts. All my pictures and everything else. I need all those. Got so many pictures in that phone that i haven't uploaded yet - so many memories. And so many bloody numbers!! oh gawd!!
Help help help!!

I've a phone that cost £8.50 and was hammered together in the People's Democratic Republic of Wallachia, so I'm probably not much help.
So please accept my commiserations and a virtual hug and fruit salad |

Yeah, i tried all that to no avail. And no, my contacts are saved on my phone. I don't want to lose all the pictures of the little one. I have pictures and videos that no one else has!
...and i'm talking about memories that only i have.
Why did it suddenly do that though? |

Just found this....
Tenorshare Android Data Recovery is Android file recovery software that can recover deleted, lost contacts, text messages, photos, videos and call history from Android Phone and Tablet.
Has to be a glimmer of positiveness that there is software that may be able to help?

It sounds like a critial error that might require a complete restart. I suggest taking it to your provider who might be able to access the hard disk in a safe mode to get your content out before rebooting it. |

I wouldn't do that just yet!
And don't do any kind of reset or factory reset - yes you may get the device working again - but you will defo lies the precious data.
If there is a chance of recovering via software/ hdd access first - try it. At the moment the data (should) still be on the device.
Can you use another phone in the meantime? Give you a chance to read about, or look at options to try and recover the data ? |

Are you sure the battery isn't just completely drained to nothing? When I first got ny Nexus Tablet I let the battery go too far down and when I went to charge it did absolutely nothing until it had been charging for half an hour. |

"You're stuck on a boot loop, happened me with an iphone during an update. I'll email you a link now with instructions on fixing it"
Can't see the link. Fab has censored it. And yeah, i've been meaning to back everything up but with work and everything else i just didn't get round to it. Didn't expect this to happen. Have a feeling i've lost a lot of vital contacts and pictures.
The phone has more than enough charge at the moment. Shall i charge it completely and then see what happened?
I began to update whatsapp because that message keeps coming up. But, once it said no memory. The phone just froze.

Oh long have you had the phone, is it under guarantee, is there a customer care package with it?
Have you tried Googling to see if anyone esle has had this problem? Or looked to see there is an online forum for your type of phone? |

I think now is the time to put it aside until tomorrow. It's not going to get worse overnight and you might make a mistake through stress or tiredness.
Have a look at it again tomorrow. If you can't fix it a person that does it for a living probably can. I know you have those videos on there but i think thats pretty common these days. |

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds) |
Careful what you do Mr, If you send it back to the manufacturer for repair the first thing they do is wipe the phone of all data then re install the operating software,
Hope you get it resolved I m in a similar boat I have a phone in need of repair that has precious photos on there |

"Definitely DO NOT do a factory reset
That will for sure wipe everything....
It will work again though! And if it won't work its a paperweight. "
Maybe, but right at this moment it's the stuff that's stored on it that's of most cocern to him!!! |

turn the phone off for at least a full 60 seconds then start it in safe mode. to do that turn the phone on whole simultaneously holding the volume down key but keep pressing the volume down key. if it'll start up then it's the whatsapp app that's causing the phone a problem. go into dettings app manage and delete whatsapp completely. if you have pics or vids in whatsapp you don't want to lose then you can try connecting the phone to your computer while it's in safe mode and look at moving the files over. don't worry if you can't view the pics in safe mode theyre still there on the phone is just that safe mode only allowed minimal things to work on the phone in order to diagnose. once you've backed up and deleted whatsapp then start the phone again as you normally would to come out of safe mode. with a 60 second break again. then try downloading whatsapp again. |

The 1st thing I'd do would be to connect it to a pc or laptop, see if you can access it like a hard drive.
I'm not familiar with the Note, does it have an SD card? If so, have the pics and videos been saved/stored on it?
Check your Gmail account for your conracts and calendar/diary. |

My Sony Ericsson did this while I was on holiday one time. Turns out it needed an update. I had to send it off but it was back in three days all fixed and everything still on it.

"Restore to factory settings.
And lose all the stuff he's concerned about? Not a good idea! "
However he may need to face facts that he could lose everything no matter what he does, a very hard lesson learnt unfortunately, been there done that too |

Thank you. Been trying to do this safe mode thing but it just doesn't seem to happen. Haven't got a wink of sleep yet. May just get some shut eye, do some researchand try this safe mode again.
it's just unnecessary stress which I don't need right now.

"okay, im taking my filters off. Im fucking pissed!!
...anyway that i can back everything up?"
if you have an micro sd card you could take it out - get an adapter and put it onto your pc. All depends if you have saved them to phone memory or if you have an sd card in it? |

I think the pictures are safe. They've been saved on my memory card. But, the whatsapp ones are on the phone I think. My mosst crucial thing at the moment is my contacts. These are numbers i've had since I firrst ever had a phone. And of course potential meets off here who no longer are on the site etc.
...just a hassle.
and the phone is not going on to safe mode. Been trying for ages.

"Glad to hear about your pics/vids... your contacts should be on the sim card, they usually are? get a new sim and they transfer all contacts to it in the shop, retaining the old number too"
my contacts were saved on my phonee. The ssim card didn't have any space. Last time I backed up my contacts was in december. So recovered some numbers somehow. But, not new ones. And they are the ones I need.

Hope you sort it Popeye.
Then? Go get an iPhone. Everything on mine backs up every time I plug it in to the laptop - which is often as I use the tethering facility for internet access when working away.
Hope you manage to rescue your stuff!

So, am now sat in the Samsung store. Tried everything I could to sort the phone. Followed all the online guides..but nothing has worked. The phone does not even go in to safe mode.
According to the expert. The phone is stuck on boot loop. And the only way to sort this is by rebooting the whole system.
guess that's all my new contacts gone out the window.
..will need cheering up today.

Only sorry you were not able to get the contacts back
Have you thought about signing up for a gmail account - you are able to sync your contacts between the phone and the gmail account. Then if the same happens, or the phone is lost, you always have the contacts in your gmail account
Im no techno whizz, but most phones (especially android I think) you can set it up really easily/quickly

Yeah, the thing is. Gmail only had a few of my contacts on there. And i got quite a few. And some of the more recent ones seemed to not be on it. I think if i use another phone that has android and sign in to my gmail some contacts come up.
...but, can i see those contacts when i sign in to my gmail account on my laptop? I don't know much all about these things. Too complicated for me lol
Why can't things just be simple like the old days?
