..is as complex as the contents of her handbag.
After nearly 50 years of life I am still intrigued, frustrated, delighted and dismayed with the successful and unsuccessful attempts I have had understanding women's minds. Just when you think you understand you are quickly reminded you don't.
So this thread is a little, hopefully humorous homage to the wonder of a woman's mind |

"I have to agree ... there are some pretty weird women out there
"
As the mother of six young men my eyes have been opened to the myriad of female sensibilities. Seeing other women through the eyes of my sons has been an experience. I thought I was a bit, shall we say, different, but my goodness I pale into insignificance amongst the total nut jobs my boys seem to favour, bless em |

I see it as outmoded sexist drivel.
Sexist.. struth.... I wasn't expecting that"
think about it shaman, what intelligent and rational woman wants to see her gender described in the terms you've used .....our minds are like the contents of our handbags!? To me, and I know that this wasn't your intention, it's patronisisng and tantamount to patting the little woman on her head and saying "run along". However lots of women will disagree with what I say and actually like being thought of as a mysterious species that no man can possibly understand. |

The quote was a Billy Conolly quote and I have to say I found it funny rather than true. I believe we all have complexities that are difficult to understand and I have just realised the error of my first post. |

I tried to explain further up. A woman's mind = the complexity of the contents of her hand bag is a good starting point.

Don't worry about it. Shit happens. We're all guilty of opening mouth and insering foot. I've heard lots worse said.
Incidentally, as someone mentioned casual sexism there's a good site called the Everyday sexism project. Makes very interesting reading. |

I did not view it that way at all - just as a light hearted, good natured post using an old humorous cliche as a point of reference for amusement. I would not give it a second thought, the intent that came through to me was an affectionate compliment!

No one said that - I said it was 'sexist drivel' and someone else said 'patronising'. No one said it was nasty, abusive or hurtful. It was clearly not intended that way - but it was a sexist comment, albeit, unintentional. |

sorry maybe I didnt word that very well. Whilst I was not accusing anyone of calling the op nasty, abusive or hurtful I meant the op shouldn't feel so embarrassed as he wasnt being so himself. Hmmm thats not much clearer is it |

They're an enigma wrapped inside a mystery.
But it depends on the woman. Some women are pretty dense (towie crowd and their viewers) and easy to work out, but then some are headstrong and have a sharpened tongue and you mentally fence with this women.

Perhaps it is the mention of handbag. As containers they are never very large. I doubt you'd fit the complexities of any human mind into a library, let alone a handbag. Or a man bag ... Or even a sherpa's rucksack! |

A WOMAN'S POEM:
Before I lay me down to sleep, I pray for a man, who's not a creep,
One who's handsome, smart and strong. One who loves to listen long,
One who thinks before he speaks, One who'll call, not wait for weeks.
I pray he's gainfully employed, When I spend his cash, won't be annoyed.
Pulls out my chair and opens my door. Massages my back and begs to do more.
Oh! Send me a man who'll make love to my mind, Knows what to answer to 'how
big is my behind?'
I pray that this man will love me to no end, And always be my very best
friend.
A MAN'S POEM:
I pray for a deaf-mute gymnast nymphomaniac with
huge boobs who owns a bar on a golf course,
and loves to send me fishing and drinking This
doesn't rhyme and I don't give a shit.
The End |

Me too. I remember when Cherie Blair lost a baby when she was in her mid-forties, I was a member of another forum and the vitriol aimed at her by other women for even being pregnant in her forties was shocking and cruel. Women implied that the baby must have been a mistake, that it was her own fault for getting pregnant at such an advanced age and various ther unkind implications. Some women are womankinds worst enemies. |
