"Is it rude to say hello and hi now days? "

Yes, very rude, and unimaginative, and if you do I will block you, blah blah

It's not rude, but for me it doesn't exactly inspire confidence that a convo would be forthcoming...when I send an initial message I make sure there's a question (other than how are you) included that might incentivise the person to respond...i don't respond to Hi as a first message (or anything else) unless there's a joke too

Well you say hello 1st and if they reply then you ask a question or you will feel like a mug when they don't reply. It's common sense to say hello 1st and manners

Whilst I don't bother telling anyone off for saying hi, I do make it clear on my profile that I will not respond and block unless there's a joke included...everyone deals differently with their profiles

"What's rude about that? "

Nothing, I was taking the piss, the normal rules about manners don't apply on here, it's a long story but in future try being rude with your initial message, if nothing else you will get a reply

Yep, it's a great filter and gives me a laugh (or a groan) It's just another way of making sure someone's read at least the first bit of my profile

I don't expect an essay but just 'hello' and then I reply 'hello' and then they say 'how are you' and I say 'fine' by which point I expect both parties are already bored!!

Try hello and even one sentence to try and start an actual conversation tends to work better.

Chalking 'Hi' on a brick and punting it through your neighbours window is frowned upon in some circles.

Nobody makes anyone jump through hoops on here. If people don't like it don't message the person.

When I see those profile insisting you put a certain word as a subject header in the message I never do it, if they choose not to message me back as a result that's up to them.

I go for 'yo' on a breeze block......much more original and tends to work better.

My profile, my rules...I do well enough out of it and find that it's not often that I don't get on well with the folk that get past my numpty filter. As for jumping through hoops, that's not one of my kinks

It's no different to people who ask for a certain phrase or word in the subject line really....plus she gets a fee joke

If I receive a message that just says "hi" I just reply with "no, I'm just naturally happy" . Very rarely do I get a response to that
