But I sent a friend a handwritten letter as she is having a bad run of luck. She says it's the nicest thing to happen in ages. Simple things.....
Anyone else find email a bit cold? |

Yes I do, for speed and convenience they are great but receiving a handwritten letter is so much more personal.
She is lucky to have such a thoughtful and caring friend |

I think that's lovely too. I send postcards to random friends from random places. Writing something concise but entertaining - as you have to do on a postcard - is becoming a lost art.

Emails can, in my opinion, convey everything from empathy, joy, pleasure to sadness, melancholy etc... it depends on the style of the writer and his/ her appropriate choice of words.
To me cards and letters do not mean any more than an email or text message - it is the person who sends them and how they phrase them that matters.
And, in some cases hand written letters are kind of hard to decipher... so for me email wins in most cases. |

" Thing is ... it is not the computer that writes those - it is still a person, just a different medium to convey a message?
I can understand people who like the old style, not just in letter and card writing. It is just a personal choice. |

I use twitter.
I work on the logic that the less I say the more chance I have of not making a bad situation worse.
so "hp ur ok" seems to work for me remarkably well. |

Was asking as I thought a letter wasn't that special apart from nice to have something through the post other than junk.
Always a good feeling. Maybe I should just order cheap crap off ebay for a daily perk! |

How lovely! I have handwritten letters from years ago. Can't keep emails in a box and read them, every so often can you? They make me smile! I even have little notes my children wrote me when little. |

My son wrote me a small poem on a piece of tracing paper with a crayon, when he was 5 he is now a strapping 6 foot 2 ....37 year old father of 6, but I still have his little letter in a box of handmade cards from all of my children...priceless. It's lovely to recieve a letter so good for you OP, she's a lucky lady to have such a good friend...x |

My mum (86) writes letters to her great grandson (7), he loves receiving them and writes letters back to her.
He is also encouraged to write and post thank you cards for Christmas and birthday presents.
I think it is great despite the fact I haven't written a letter for a lot of years |
