so what do you go for, are you an M&S/Waitrose upmarket shopper, a Tesco/Sainsbury/Morrisons/Asda middle of the road or do you plump for Aldi/Lidl for the bargains? |

Aldi then Morrisons. Aldi's stuff is good and it is far better priced. People who go to Waitrose probably find Fortnum and Mason's cheap. |

But more and more shoppers are opting for Aldi and Lidl which have grown their market share hugely in the past couple of years, which has led to a huge profit warning from poor old Morrisons this morning whose shares along with Tesco and Sainsbury have fallen some 20% since the start of the year, while the flotation of Poundland yesterday saw the shares rise by a third. A price war beckons and there will be more blood on the high street, all good for the consumer if not the shareholders! |

I'm a waitrose man. Much nicer shopping experience. Will go to most places but I certainly find shopping stressful at asda. Seems to have a manic atmosphere. |

Aldi is by far the best compared to Lidl Been using it now for about 6 weeks for all shopping and used for 7 years prior for bit and bargains . Now saving over £20 a week . And no compromise on quality . |

M&S customers round here dress up and are pompous snobs
Lidle customers round here are in a rush
Tesco is over priced and staff are miserable
Aldi same as lidle
Morrisons used to be good
Sainsburys very nice staff

God I wish we had a choice... !!
We have a small tesco and a small aldi. That's it unless you travel for more than an hour ...
I'm becoming used to online shopping for even basics for the kids like new pens as so little choice.

Morrisons are going to be "investing" £1billion in price cuts over the next couple of years, which means everyone else will follow. Probably bad news for farmers and suppliers but good news for consumers as all the big chains will be fighting for custom. |

Sainsbury's and Tesco mainly, depending if I am going from work (t) or home (s).
Waitrose does have the nicest food, but is a 30 min drive away, so have to make the effort if we want to go there.
M&S for bits and pieces if I am near, but there is not a big enough selection in ours to make it worthwhile going for a full shop.
Aldi at Christmas for their bits that the English supermarkets don't stock.
as for the rest:
Asda - not keen on the food, staff or cliental
Lidl - not got one
morrisons - the one near here seems grubby, the floor does not look clean so no thanks |

Aldi - get some bits from Sainsburys which Aldi don't stock. But the main shop is always Aldi. Saves me more than £100 a month - that's £1200 a year - not to be sniffed at. Especially as I am saving to return to Oz next year. |

He shops at Morrisons and Aldi (and the Co-op for little bits as its not as far away as the other two)
I shop at Asda, Tesco and Aldi - I'm quite fortunate to have an Asda and Tesco within a 5 minute drive.
Never M&S or Waitrose, we're not rich enough!! |

Ive signed up to Tesco Clubcard in the last few weeks but trying not to go out my way just to get the rewards of the card. Its for petrol really seeing as Esso accept the clubcard.
Asda - 75%
Morrisons - 20%
M+S - For curries or x2 for £10 offers.
If I can spend under £10 each visit I have done well, Im like Jack (beanstalk) |

That is because you have been conditioned to luxurious shelving, etc, in the big supermarkets. It is just a ploy to get you to part with more money. They cut the costs without cutting the quality of the goods.
Having spent a fair bit of time in Germany shopping in Aldi in the past I am a little more pragmatic. I need to buy certain things to survive - I don't need to pay for a 'shopping experience'. German supermarkets are simply functional - we would do well to learn from this. |

It depends if you place any value on the "experience". I used to live virtually next door to a Tesco which was invariably packed with staff who were unpleasant and I would come out feeling stressed and irritable, so chose to drive 5 miles to a Sainsburys which was invariably quieter, with nicer staff and I would come out happy. May have cost me a bit more but was worth every penny! |

Same here!! I like the customer service at Waitrose. ...as I have a really busy job so often rushing around so don't have a lot of time to spend ages looking for something. Waitrose staff are well trained and make the experience so much easier and quicker. |

My local Sainsbury is located in student central - so is always packed and not great to be able to just get in and out of. It's not a pleasant experience shopping there. |

I also can't stand Tescos. Their attention to staff training seems low in their priorities and that seems reflected in the atmosphere and general air of unhelpfulness. Or at least that has been my experience at the Tescos where I have lived over past few years. |
