Just watching the HIV story unfold on Emmerdale and it got me wondering....how many of you would have sex with a partner you knew had HIV? Obviously with protection, but remembering that no sex is safe sex? |

I would not leave my partner if I found out he was HIV positive but I would stop having penetrative sex with him and would continue to fuck others instead. |

If it was a partner, and a committed relationship I'd not leave.
I would however practice safe sex, and I'd only have non-penetration sex with others. I'd ask him to do the same.
The truth with HIV however is that by the time we know he has it, I'd likely be infected anyways...
I do expect people to tell me if they are HIV positive no matter what form of sex we are planning on having. If it was a swinging partner the truth is I'd decline, the risks, even with safe sex are too great for a casual relationship.

"Wonder how many people who bareback on here are shitting themselves after reading the forum title "
I wonder how many people have had sex with someone with undiagnosed HIV.... or have it themselves but don't know yet. |

No, but it's a life sentence...the side effects of some of the huge cocktail of medications are hideous and I've known people who have taken their chances with the illness because they couldn't tolerate them...also take into account the regular blood testing, lifestyle changes and not to mention the continued stigma and fear of being outed especially in some professions...

I think it is naïve of you to believe that an HIV positive individual looking for casual sex would disclose his or her status. As you say most people would decline to have sex with them (even using protection) so chances are they would not mention it. |

I saw a lady on This Morning today, she had a relationship and contracted HIV.
She was in her 50's and her only awareness was black people in Africa caught it. ( I caught most of the inter_iew but just incase I picked her up wrong, apologies ) but,
truly staggering. |

Sadly people do not come clean despite supposedly loving someone.
It did split a relationship after it was discovered the partner was HIV+ but right now they are back together because love is stronger .. The person is on meds and T cells are undetectable so actually sex is quite safe. Regular checks and blood tests are obviously recommended. The partner thus far remains clear thank goodness.Obviously protection is used.
To me they havent handled the Discovery and consequent fears very well . No councelling has been done and she doesnt appear to be on meds. All of this would have been dealt with when she was diagnosed. They seem to be flapping around very randomly at the moment.
For myself If the person was someone I had fallen in love with and was subsequently diagnosed It would be sad but in this day we know so much more so yes I would stay .
I have had transfusions so I suppose I was lucky back in the early 70's not to be given the virus.
Having a few friends with the virus since 2004 you actually get over it.
In the early days I reacted in a negative way but the disease doesnt change the people that they are. I am now educated so worry less.
All of them are fit and well because medication does its job.

From World Health Organisation on Mother to Child Transmission (MTCT):
In well resourced settings, the dual approach of starting ongoing combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) in pregnancy for those women who qualify for it, and using ART through the pregnancy and stopping post-partum for those with higher CD4 counts, combined with the avoidance of breastfeeding, has become the routine management in pregnancy. This has resulted in a drop in MTCT rates to below 2% (17) |

We have been watching the story unfold , and have discussed what we woukd do if one of us had it , and the other didn't .
No doubt in our minds that we would isolate sex between just us , and only do it as safe as possible .
