have a serious query, for a change.
i was recently forced into requiring th services of a solicitor.
the reasons and why fores arent important, as tbh im not really that proud of it to feel the need to brag.
i enquired to a local company about using them to represent me, and they agreed for a fixed price of £500 + VAT + travelling expenses, which was going to be a further £50, so £650 in total.
now, the fact of the matter is, i won the legal action, so faced no charges in the end, but upon getting the bill through from the solicitors, it has a final figure of £470 inc VAT.
not only that, but they didnt actually represent me in court, they contacted a 3rd party solicitors, that happened to be local to the court i was attending, so travelling was nominal (less than 10 miles each way)
also, i dont think the original solicitors represnted me fairly as they gave me no idea of what was going t ohappen in court (im generally a good lad and keep my nose clean so have only been to court once before in my life, and that wasnt for a legal action, if that makes sense),to the point i turned up to court emty handed and had to get the hearing adjourned so i could gather the evidence i needed to defend myself, it was the other lot that told me to get all the evidence i required to represent my side of things.
do i have any recourse to complain about the actions of the first lot of solicitors?
should i ask for the balance of my money back? (nearlt £200)
or should i just be happy i won the case and move on?
hope one of you lot have been in a similar situation and can offer some advice.

Doesn't hurt to ask! Explain why you can't justify paying the total amount and offer them a price you feel they earned. All they can do is say no.
After that I wouldn't know what your options are. |

They will have to return the balance of money under the Solictors Account Rules (SAR)...
As for them not doing their job properly, as you indicate, they would have to be sued for negligence ..not worth the hassle and expense..Just be relieved you won the case.
