If it's real 'flu expect it to last more than a week. You'll usually feel absolutely dreadful for a week or two and it'll be several weeks before you're fully well again.
Nobody who has had 'flu will ever mistake a cold for 'flu again.
I have lung problems so I get a 'flu jab every year. It's not infallible but it's now been many years since I had 'flu.
A friend of mine who was young and otherwise healthy, died of swine 'flu shortly after the peak of the outbreak so I'll never take 'flu lightly. |

I had flu once. I felt like death for two weeks and felt ill for over a month. Anyone who says they had flu for a week just had a cold and should man the fuck up.
Best remedy is paracetamol, fluids and lots of sleep/rest. |

Only ever had flu once in my life, that turned into a chest infection then pleurisy. Off work for three months. People can have very bad colds and feel terrible. Flu is a different matter and normal life as you know it stops. The old story about £50 on your front lawn and not being able to get it stands. |

It's almost on par with " I had a leg amputated but they stitched it back on" .
When I had flu I could barely get out of bed to go to the toilet for a week. People need to remember that flu still kills people in this day and age whereas a cold is a mere inconvenience... |

I agree. Some people have a habit of saying they have the flu at the first sign of a snuffle. I've had flu once and bronchitis twice and could hardly get out of bed for a week. Had to sleep proped up by four pillows because I couldnt breathe.
Now having a blood test is completely different.....I need my arm in a sling with lots of tea and sympathy and a packet of chocolate biscuts. Im a total wimp when it comes to needles |

Ohh right think that's why banana's are good for you to 'fruit sugar' and burst of energy! But I think the gas in the cola could make my cough worse! |

If you dont qualify for nhs treatment, pay for a flu jab. Tesco and other places do it for a tenner. That is one cheap annual insurance policy to avoid the dreadful flu infection. Not a guarantee, but serious risk reduction and likelihood that you will not get it. Most of us would pay that for a day of feeling better, let alone able to avoid weeks of suffering. |
