Was her mum still alive? Maybe her dad was the closest non-partner available/the one she felt was special in her life.

If my daughter asked me to attend next time - I would, because she asked and I love her.

My Ice Castle! South Wales

Woman I work with, she went in with her daughter till it was the crucial time then swapped with her husband purely for the fact she passes out when she sees blood and can't cope with other peoples pain. Apparently he was a great birthing partner and her daughter didn't feel weird having her dad with her at all.

Must be amazing if he watched his daughter being born then watching her give birth herself, surreal and beautiful. X

The land of grey peas and bacon

I'd not ask my dad purely and simply because he would be passed out on the floor...I would love my partner in with me during the birth...

Her mom was alive her parents had split up and was living with her dad but still saw her mom I was just asking as ive only heard of women asking for partners or moms being with them I personally only wanted my partner with me I understand you may be closer to your dad and want him there just wanted to see it from a dads point of view if they would jump at the chance to support their daughter though an amazing experience or if they would feel helpless like most partners do

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

By the time I got to hospital there was barely time to get my partner there, let alone my parents. And the thought of them bickering over me while I gave birth was not attractive.

When I had my 1st child 23 yrs ago, my dad was there along with my ex, wasn't thru choice just how it turned out because I was so drugged up!

Don't think ex would be there for our daughter as he couldn't cope when his own kids were born, me personally hope I have the privilege seeing first grandchild being born one day x

my sister had my dad with her when she had her first. The scrote of a 'man' that got her pregnant decided he didnt want to be a grown up (his words) at 5 months pregnant and i had gone to all her antenatal classes with her ready to be her partner however the baby got stuck so she had to have an emergency caesarian.

Our dad is very calm in emergency situations and so it was him she chose over our mum who was in the waiting room (she would have panicked and made the situation more stressful).

Nope.

But I did have my older brother in with me for my first, along with my mum, my sons dad waited outside with my brothers friend. It wasn't planned this way, my brother and his friend just so happened to be at the hospital when I went in. My sons dad passed out so went outside and at this point my brother came in and stayed. He was puking most of the time and when he wasn't he had his head on my shoulder facing the wall behind us telling me about how horrible birth is and that he didn't feel well. Men!!

I wouldn't do it again like that and had I not been off my head on all the pain relief I would have objected to coming in but hay ho.

Men should stay out of labour rooms/delivery rooms full stop. They ask stupid questions, fall asleep, get in the way and steal the gas and air. Women only, unless the man is a doctor, midwife or nurse

My oh was with me for both births. Wouldn't have wanted mum there. If my daughter ever has children I'd love to be there but only if she wanted that

My dad took me to my first scan but was too emotional to come in! He'd have been useless in the actual event!

If she really wanted me there I'd oblige but I wouldn't volunteer. We are very close but I can't see her wanting me there anyway.
