yes... when I was about to lose my job at the hands of a government agency who decided to outsource our jobs I sent a blistering e-mail to my local mp...
who then brought it up in Transports questions to the minister in parliament... and send a copy of said email....
who then sent it to the CEO of my company....
who then came in to where I worked and asked to speak to me with reagrds to the mail... who sent a copy to my boss of the customer centre
needless to say my boss wasn't happy as she was the last person to know..
have to say the meeting with the CEO and why is was in the interests of the taxpayer... and me saying why it wasn't
lets say we agreed to disagree.... In the long run I was proved to be correct.... |

"I've written to my local councillor and got a pretty quick response "
Glasgow has multi member council wards. If you want action, the trick is to write/ email all of them and cc the rest. The fall over each other trying to be the one to help. |

Yes I have, just recently and spoken on the phone, about the bad treatment my father recently received in hospital. A letter from him has been sent to the local health authority. |

Strangely enough, I've just sent one. I don't expect any response which will change things, but thought they might as well earn the wages which comes out of our pockets, even if it is just spending a few minutes reading. Not sure I'm getting my money's worth! |

I have written to a range of elected officials, mp's, msp's, mep's, councillors and ministers.
my favourite response was during the Blair era when a labour party mp who assured me that my concerns over the Iraq war would be laid to rest and the governments decision vindicated once we had secured the hidden wmd's.
still waiting for that. |

I've written and phoned my local MP about an issue of a head teacher bullying my daughter, he was very good, and helped me a lot |

Yes I have. He did ask a question in the Commons about the issue I raised.it was about something that affects a lot of people . NICE have now recommended changes which have resolved it anyway. |

"waste of time contacting m.p's or councillors unless its something they can use for their own gain i.e in the media.......... no use at all"
I don't agree. There's no doubt you'll get a more high profile media aware response when there's an election in the offing but that doesn't mean they ignore stuff at other times.
One Glasgow MP, admitted in drink, once complained that the single biggest call on his staff time was replying to people who had contacted him about stuff which wasn't in his control - stuff which should be addressed to your local councillor(s). |

yes, as part of a postal campaign to get the way the DCPC has been implemented for professional drivers, to make it more valid, useful and, ultimately, be worth the £600 it costs to be able to work for a living
but to no avail as the government departments ave blinded themselves with the lies they have happily perpetuated about the validity of it |

I wrote to Margaret Thatcher back in 1983 or so .. Had a lovely handwritten and signed personal reply.
I also have a hand written letter from Airey Neave thanking me for helping out at an election campaign.
Politicians dont hand write anymore ..such a shame. |

Yes, we have written to MP, when a house in Tyneside was refused planning permission after it had been built, and they allowed a bloody BIG nursing home twice it's size to be built next door,
we wrote to ask which of them had their palms greased.
Needless to say, we didnt get a reply,
The building refusal had nothing to do with us in the slightest, but just got to us so much that the Nursing home was built next door. |

"yes i have more than once and its a waste of time. They dont represent you or I. correct..once voted in,they tow the party line."
One of the MP's from Plymouth is from Dagenham, the only reason she is down here is it is classed as a safe seat. The various parties use safe seats to guarantee their yes people get elected to tow the party line. Often to the detriment of the local people that elect them in the first place. Personally think this needs changing. Maybe a minimum period of being a resident in the constituency they wish to contest. About 5 years should suffice.
I did write to her to question why we send monetary humanitarian aid to a certain country that has nuclear weapons and its own space agency, she was fairly honest in her reply that stated we are basically paying for influence. |

Yes on two occasions I have had the need for MP intervention ... both times I found him and his office to be extremely helpful and with their input both cases were won |

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack! |
Wrote to my MP about cycle races being held around my village after a letter to the local police station was "brushed off". I had a personal reply, they are OBLIGED to do so, accompanied by a copy of a letter he sent to the Chief Constable of the county! Seemed these events were being held without the police being notified that they were happening which whilst not against the law, is regarded as being a "coutesy" to inform the police they are happening. |
