What ever has happened will be revealed in time. My thoughts are with the passengers and their families.

It has gone down somewhere, not hijacked in the traditional sense, you can't land a airliner in many places without it being noticed. Strange not to have any distress call, either catastrophic failure or they got in the cockpit if terrorist related. Maybe time to start designing airliners with access to the cockpit from outside the aircraft only.

Until and if they find the black boxes it is speculation, hence why it is being described as missing. Horrific time for those involved and their loved ones.

It sure is a strange one this. The 777 has an amazing safty record.

Even if it lost a engine it wouldn't be a problem if it lost both engine's it is even possible for the aircraft to glide.

In the past there as been crashes caused by the pilot deliberately crashing the plane.

pre 911 if your aircraft was hijacked you weretold to keep calm and follow there iinstructions as there was usually ransom demands.

Post 911 your told do what ever you have to in order to regain control of an aircraft in the event of a hijacking.

Air traffic control will know the area that it went missing but that could cover 1000's of square miles. When they start to find pieces of fuselage then they should be able to identify if it was an explosion, if it's mechanics then they need the voice and data black boxes.

The plane wings was damaged 2 years ago but was repaired and wouldn't have flown until it had undergone testing

It all seems very strange and I'm sure confusing and extremely upsetting for the families of those missing. Hope the find out what's happened soon.

Must have something sudden as no distress message sent out.If it wasn't heard by a ground station it would be heard by another aircraft in flight. Some airlines maintenance is not that good and they are not allowed in European airspace.

there appears to be confusion where the plane was ... reports are that it may have turned back - hence the search area being significantly widened
