Was there a key moment in your life that made you change direction?

I was on a course yesterday (cant believe it was only yesterday)and it did make me think.

So was there?

And if you want to share... what was it?

A man changed my life about 8 years ago, not in a sexual way. He came into my life as a friend. I was completly in the wilderness didnt know where my life was going. He became my mentor and my quardian but the day he sent me a copy of celestine prophecy was the day i knew who i was

There are several memorable ones that I still reflect on now and wonder what if....

the reason I moved to the UK

the decision to go ahead with a pregnancy

my first profile on the web

Can't help but to wonder what if the outcome of one or all had been different. Who would I be now, where would I be, would I be better off or not........

You know I love having 20 minutes each morning of quiet thinking time, reflection time.. before I get up and rush about with all the things that are important. That time is invaluable to me for it allows me to do what you have just done... reflect. Reflect on what if... Somehow I think we dont do enough of that?

I think this "nobody gets it right all the time " is really good to hear - we are human, fallible and well, sometimes we learn from our mistakes and other times we do not.

I for one, will not have any more hangovers... I think...;-)

PS I actually logged off 20 minutes ago and went to bed!!!

Seriously? What is the point in wasting time looking backwards and wondering "what if" and thinking about "what now isn't" as a result of it.... unless it is to be thankful it didn't go tits up at some point and kill you.

It is what we do tomorrow that allows us to shape our own life.

well, it is like this...

once upon a time there was a woman who loved the colour red and it was that passion of hers for the colour red that got her into deep deep red trouble. In fact she loved the colour so much that she surrounded herself .. with red pillows, chairs, tables, books, curtains... table cloths, rugs, soft toys, cooking utensils... everything but everything was red.

One of the greatest moments in anybody's developing experience is when he no longer tries to hide from himself but determines to get acquainted with himself as he really is.

I accept that not everybody enjoys reflection for their own good reasons, and there is not need for all of us doing the same things, enjoying the same past-times or using our minds in the same way.

I will, however, say that without philosophy, reflection, the debate between two scientists etc.. progress would be slower and our lives less rich.

Entertaining little quotes, sayings, proverbs etc are all the result of reflection.

There have been a few moments and decisions throughout my life that have altered it's course.....some good....some not so good.

I wouldn't want to go back and change any of them as they are what makes me the person I am today.

I quite agree with your last statement - reflection does not mean regret, it rather means looking at what has happened and how it has an effect on what is today, perhaps with a view of how it may influence the future.

It does not have to be deep philosophical stuff... it could just be reverie as the French call it. A moment of calm in our busy lives, a time for evaluating and maybe changing direction?
