Apparently an England footballer is coming out as gay in Sundays papers...guarantee it's lallana, been saying it for months! Who do you reckon it is? |

Good luck to him!!!! It's a brave move, as homophobic chanting etc is still rife at matches, and it's still an environment for many that's not comfortable. Thanks also to the ex Villa player Thomas Hitzlsperger, who may have helped pave the way for this.
We've got him amongst the following -
Ashley Cole
Chris Smalling
Daniel Sturridge
Gary Cahill
Glen Johnson
Jack Wilshere
Joe Hart
Jordan Henderson
Raheem Sterling
Steven Gerrard
Wayne Rooney
Adam Lallana
Andros Townsend
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Danny Welbeck
Such a sweet day, when this happens!
All anal is an anagram of one name, of course. |

do you say the same to your mates when they start talking about the latest bird they banged at the weekend or the fights they've been in or any other matcho crap?
they'll act how they act and you have no right telling them otherwise.
homophobia in sport is a terrible thing. you can be a philanderer, woman beater, druggy etc but you dare to love another man and you ain't welcome |

All the time there are people around that may have a vested interest in exploiting information like that because its deemed newsworthy or scandalous then there's always going to be people that feel the need to come out through the media before someone else says something....its sad really |

Is the fact that some people have sex with the same sex still a 'thing' in 200-and-fucking-4?
Although, I guess the demographic of people who 'don't care' also 'read papers online' so, meh. |

No mate,it's not a "thing" in 2000 and fucking 14 either
Could look at it 2 ways, firstly well played for coming out and being brave enough to do it now rather than after his career is over like most do.
Or secondly, why come out at all? I've never seen anyone reveal to the papers that they're straight! Doesn't matter to me,if they do a job on the pitch then they should play |

i do agree that this is no one elses business and can see that perhaps he is doing it with the right information before someone else does it with the wrong information.
Although its not right to force being a role model on anyone i do feel that if more sportsmen and women were more open about sexuality it would become less of a thing sooner.
perhaps the people that should take responsibility for this not being a thing is the media. if they dnt run the stories people wont want to out others for minor fame and a chance to be on celeb big brother or in the jungle or money |

Well to be fair they probably couldn't Nancy about anymore on the field if they all tried anyway so I don't see any change to the game only the player and if he can manage to kick the ball in the back of the net then fk it he's as good as the rest no matter what team he bats for |

If we didn't buy the papers they wouldn't print it. This thread in itself is proof that to many a sportsman being gay is still news and worthy of comment. |

If it doesn't matter, then why, as per your earlier posts have you been speculating for months as to the sexuality of 1 player? And why start a thread purely to share that speculation? Surely that suggests it actually matters quite a lot to you? |

Well said.
But, until people stop buying the Sunday gossip rags, they'll keep printing these non event stories !!
"I look forward to the day someone's sexual orientation isn't news
It's also none of our business. The government destroying our health system or political unrest abroad, that's news "

see my post in the England World Cup squad I posted yesterday.
It is a rumour but I saw it on a twitter feed for a Sun journo. It was along the lines of 'Current England International who played on Wednesday'.
England Ladies Played wendesday - Could be a female.
If it is true and a male it will heap huge pressure on the manager to pick them in the squad as not to be seen as homophobic.
It's ok saying its 2014 and why are we talking about it etc but it has to start somewhere dosen't it.
Maybe in 50 years when a player approaches the press to run a story like this the papers say 'No thanks it won't sell any papers, not big news anymore'. But to get there it has to start somewhere.
That is, if theres any truth in it - if the sun have come out and denied it then it probably is false.
If true, then it's not any Liverpool players |

As someone further up said - I look forward to the day that someone sexuality is no longer considered newsworthy.
But more than that, I look forward to a day when someone sexuality is no longer seen as as a way to define them - either by other people or the person themselves. Someones sexuality is a part of who they are - not WHO they are.
I dont want people to have to 'come out', 'stay in' or have to make a choice either way. I dont need to know if someone is gay, straight, bi or objectophiliac in order to form an opinion of them. I dont want people to define themselves (or limit themselves) by sexuality.
I look forward to the day when sexual orientation is treated with complete indifference by everyone except the individual and those they choose to sleep with. |

It is a good thing that in general our society is aspiring to an ideal that makes it truly inclusive. As some have said it is not until stories like this are not news worthy that we can believe we've made a big stride in that aspiration.
Every journey does need the first step though, every first step in a new direction is 'news'. First black footballers to represent then even captain England were massive stories. Now black inclusion in the England team is the norm.
It shouldn't matter if someone chooses to come out, but the reality of our society is that it does. That first step should always be applauded because it is usually a brave step and gets society a little closer to its goals. |

Thank's for the clarification
I guess it's perfectly normal to speculate about someones sexuality for months (your words not mine) just because you can while not actually being remotely interested |

This should be a non-story, but instead it is of interest.
I look forward to the day when people can be accepted for who they are without having to worry about other people feeling the need to judge or belittle them. |

agreed but things are slowly improving I can remember when the only thing worse than being gay was being bi lol . football particularly premiership have been allowed to get away with being homophobic for far too long

It's not got the stigma attached to it like it had in the past. Hardly what I'd call a big story. Coming out those days is nowhere near as brave as it was in the past. |

i dont know, i think the advent of social media has meant that the abuse and negativity can be sent from further afield and 24/7 so it has different challenges now a days but sadly it is still a big hurdle for some to overcome. |
