It's great fun isn't it. If you add a 'good morning/afternoon ' as well, it really shocks some |

Yeah and that makes me smile even more.
I love it most when someone looks really miserable and then they smile back. I hope it made them feel better. |

Ohh i do this every day and i get my girls to do it as well...
They love doing it cause they set it as a challenge to see who can make the most amount of people smile back... Plus, they know that it may be the only smile that person sees that day... |

"I hope you all have a great day.... . I have a challenge for you lot. I want you to smile at a complete stranger and tell us the outcome "
I smile at everyone. Nothing much occurs. Granted, at times it's a leer, but still nothing happens. |

"ive noticed that when walking the dog alot of dog walkers tend to say morning/afternoon/evening however if you walk the same route without a dog no one chats to you ....strange ...but true ! "
When I'm out running dog walkers are much friendlier than when I'm out walking. I put it down to them liking my running shorts... |

I don't know why but often women smile at me when they cross my way walking! Some say hiya. I smile back inside and out. Rarely I get that from men for some reason. Elderly people tend to do it more. It feels nice to smile and make ppl smile indeed. |

"If I try that round here I'm as likely to get stabbed as I am a smile back
Wow "
Made the mistake of smiling at people when I first moved to town. Many would give looks that could kill rather than smile back...,
Sad but true. |

Who doesn't smile or say hello to strangers??? I always do.
I find people are just waiting for it, as soon as I say good morning the person always breaks into a smile and replies as if it is a relief.
Get your heads out of the pavement (or arse) and make human contact FFS! (unless they are scary bros with hoods on, or skanky crack whores, as they will both have knives). |

I smile at people every day , and usually with a hello . My shock is that 99% of guys will looked shocked and stammer out a hello as they think im either gay or on day release . Women on the other hand , 99% will always smile back and most say hello . Has a sales guy who travels the UK , its nice to spread some sun shine |

I always smile at people, most smile back others look at me as if I'm bonkers.
When I'm working (black cab) as soon as I wind my window down for a job I always say "hello there" in a cheery voice. The look of astonishment on some peoples face is really funny. I don't think it's because the are impolite it's just that some people find personal interaction awkward. |

"See we are a cheerful bunch "
Was just thinking the same thing, not always apparent from forum posts. Doesn't the sunshine make everyone more inclined to smile.
I've always smiled and said hello to people when we pass in the street, my kids used to wonder why since they were constantly told not to speak to strangers!!

Well this is not a go at you sexy English! But coming from a small town in west Wales, where we all greet and smile at each other when passing! I spent 15 weeks working around the slough and most of South London last summer, I was totally shocked when when I smiled, greeted or opened the door for someone they looked at me as if I was strange or was up to something! |
