Hypochondria is a contradiction in terms as it basically means over reacting to an illness or injury. Yet it's classed as a medical condition. So being an hypochondriac is a condition in itself. It may be psychological, but it's one none the less. Personally I can't stand them. |

He really doesn't need to be testing his bloods that many times a day and seems to be over-reacting to what is a very manageable condition.
Perhaps you could organise an appointment with a diabetic nurse which BOTH of you could attend and where you could ask her to advise on how he should be managing his condition so that it makes a minimum impact on both him and all around him. |

I am freaking out at the moment have had a recent health scare and done family history and gene test for cancer where it has come back at a very high percentage. Not hypercondriac just very hyper sensitive to when it comes to any lumps or bumps.
Ps type 2 here too as long as meds and diet are controlled diabetes is very manageable x |

I'm someone who has to keep talking about things to keep myself motivated on them. I'm type 2 tablet controlled and can Get obsessive about my sugar readings etc. If it helps him focus then you'll have to find a way to block it out.
The way I see it is the people around me understand how important these things are for me so they understand my need to blart on about it and let me do so with love and understanding. |

It's worse nowadays, cancer adverts everywhere, self diagnosing on the internet, and whilst all of that serves a very good purpose, occasionally it serves a negative one with people's lives being ruined by these health obsessions. Every headache = tumour, every cough = lung cancer, every lump = cancer. It's always safe to get yourself checked out but people with hypochondria soon move on to some other phantom problem. It's a severe psychological problem for a lot of people. I do feel sympathy for them.

Discuss the whole issue with a Doctor or Psychologist with you and your husband present. The one thing we can never quantify is someone else's thoughts/worries. x |

That they would. I treat all the marrieds the same, regardless of gender.

"Update: My spot has turned into a tumour.
Get Evie! to have a look at it. She's got a YouTube qualification.
I probably need to start a thread on it and seek help from the forum. "
Very probably. The only way to get proper advice is to expose every symptom. Better still if you could post lots of close up pictures showing pus.

Oh Damn!
I have just this minute got back from Hospital, where I was being checked for a skin condition - been worrying for months that it was something serious. But they told me that it's ok and I don't need to worry - I was feeling great!
Then I get in, sit down with a nice cuppa to relax, open up Fab - and the first thing that I see it this post on Hypochondria...!!!!!
Waaaaa - now I'm worrying again...!!!!

I developed large, round brown spots on the insides of my arms and legs (think Jadzia Dax markings). They appeared over a couple of nights so it was a rather dramatic change. The doctor sent me to the hospital and the hospital sent me to have one biopsied. They are freckles! |
