It's just been announced that Sharon Shoesmith, former head of Haringey Social Services has lost her appeal for unfair dismissal.

That's just made my day! On St George's Day too! A modern day dragon has been well and truly slayed!

That's good news - couldn't understand how any one could be so hard faced to appeal against dismissal in those circumstances - she really should be spending time in prison, makes you wonder if she feels any remorse and takes any responsibility at all doesn't it? Z

She's suffering from some form post traumatic stress disorder, apparently.

She fucked up and she won't take responsibility for that. She feels that being sacked makes her unemployable. I'd argue that allowing a child to die a horrible death more than made her unemployable, not being dismissed for it.

This is going to sound awful - but - I'm glad she's suffering - she deserves to and I hope she feels guilty until the day she dies. If being sacked has made her unemployable then so be it - she has proved that she is unemployable herself without having to be sacked! Z

Good,at least there are some that can make a decent decision before it all goes wrong

Shame she could'nt do the same when it came down to choosing between meeting targets and having all the boxes ticked on paper before making sure the kids in her care were safe

I can't even understand why she bothered appealing as the chances that the verdict would be changed were slim to none at the outset.

She was unemployable even before being sacked as she failed to do her job properly even to a basic level and with a pretty horrific outcome.

Finally, a decision from a judge we can all understand. Not always the case.

As a Dad of two boys it sickens me to even think that such a failure can happen in this country, there are sick people in every country but the state is meant to offer a modicum of protection from them.

I had to take my lads for their check up with docs as part of the red book you get given, charting, weight, height, progress etc. They eased off after 2yrs old but I found them really useful. If those were compulsory and enforceable by law the door would not have stayed shut so long.

RIP Peter - I just wish I thought it would change future handling of cases

Yeah, the sacrificial lamb is toast. I have no sympathy for her but the f*ckers in Whitehall and in this control-freakery labour government who have implemented so many changes in policy and practice over the past few years should have been picking up their P45s alongside her. Instead they get off scott-free.

And, oh yeah, Lessons Have Been Learned

.

yada, yada

If Ed Balls was reading this forum he would be laughing into his sleeve, he will use this to push his own political power agenda.

Shoesmith is merely the symptom. It is within government's power to allow common-sense back into the workplace but we have some seriously unbalanced people making decisions at the top.
