Conforming with society?

I am a crossdresser. I am often frustrated with the social norm. Why are certain genders stuck with what society thinks is normal. Why can't anybody just wear what they want without anyone else thinking twice about it. I find it frustrating as a male I'm forced to wear male clothes in public. Another thing that annoys me is women who wear pants/jeans. This is a male form of clothing, yet nobody bats an eyelid when they see a woman in jeans. I would rather wear a skirt than jeans. Why can't it work both ways?
Does anyone else feel the same? Your comments please

people are brought up with ideas and thoughts that their parents share with them.
some break free of this and become free thinking individuals that accept others for who they are and how they live their lives.
others prefer to stay in a nice safe environment without every having to step outside the box.
me, as long as its not illegal, immoral and no one else is getting hurt by their actions, then crack on with yourself. |

"OP agree with you apart from the jeans are male attire, they're simply a practical piece of clothing.."
I don't mean to sound offensive or sexist. But I disagree. Trousers started off as a masculine clothing and has gradually been stolen. I think this unfair. If I was to walk out the for in a skirt I would recieve ridicule like there's no tomorrow. Yet women are ok to wear masculine clothing? |

not overtly interested in cross dressing myself, but would absolutely fight for the rights of others that wanted to."

In years to come the gender divide will not be so difficult to breach though there will always be folk who won't accept that men want to be feminine I feel in my short time here that some women and men don't mind me when femme where as years ago wasn't acceptable at all . |

Why are you annoyed that women can wear jeans? Some people will be annoyed that you wear women's clothing. Lots of tgirls go out dressed and find that most of the problems they thought they would encounter were imagined. Others have found that they have bumped into the wrong group of people and have been abused or attacked. Also it will depend on how you present yourself and where. If you go out looking like a teenage clubber to your local shops you're going to stand out, like a teenage clubber would standout in that situation. I'm 6'7" in heels so I'm never going to blend in. I dress for fun though so have no interest in dressing as a female for normal day to day life, just the occasional night out at a tgirl event.
A large proportion of people on here will not go about in day to day life advertising the fact that they are swingers, not because they are ashamed of being swingers, but because many people are judgemental. If we all learned to live and let live the world would be a better place. |

I'd discount the illegal bit to an extent, it wasn't that long ago that being gay was illegal in this country.
Until the year 2000 we had a law that was to all intent and purpose exactly the same as the new Russian anti gay propaganda law. We're ahead but not by much… |

I was under the impression lots these days were more acceptable ? When you compare to the late 50's / 60's era? Quentin Crisp and such like. if honest here in London you can see every variation of cross dresser/ Tv , even up the local high street... People just seem to carry on with their busy lives? Havn't times changed? ( ps am genuinly interested and am going on what i see , from my perspective ) |

one can disagree on an opinion without being sexist or offensive, neither of which you have been..
if you look at recent history with women working in what were male dominated industries during the 1st world war then the reason to wear trousers was simply one of safety and skirts not being appropriate for what they were doing..
not all women look masculine or would i suspect think that they would when wearing trousers..
as i said i agree with your premise that we should as a society accept others for themselves and not how they dress but taking the line that women should'nt wear trousers etc in order to promote acceptance of how others dress and live seems a bit naive.. |

I don't think anyone is pushing their ideas onto anyone, i certainly haven't witnessed this even at TV/CD clubs which i have found to be the most friendly clubs i have been to. People should be able to wear what they want to |

London is so much more cosmopolitan than out in the sticks though.
It only takes one person to ruin your day.
The more it is seen the more it becomes accepted. |

I just put the offense/sexist thing to begin as I know how people can misunderstand or take things the wrong way on forums. So I just stated that before anyone went off on one lol |

I hate conformism and I feel proud of perfect strangers like crossdressers when I see them walking down the street and would not mind sseing more brave enough to do so. I have such admiration for them not hiding away. When I see badly put together older men I would like to go up and offer my help to them to make the best of what they want to do. I don't want them to think though that I'm rude I just want to help them look and feel better.
Is that wrong of me? |

It isn't wrong at of you at all. I wish there were more women around like you. I advise, though, if you ever approach a cd/tv make it subtle. First make it known that you know and are ok with. Then let it be known that your interested and curious. But being subtle is the key. If you just came out with it you might freak the person out
Wish I could have someone to help me out. |

And a very narrow minded one it is at that.
Not all tgirls dress as though they are going to an orgy or fulfilling a sexual fantasy. A tgirl dressed in what most people would accept as normal day to day wear is not exactly what I'd describe as fulfilling sexual fantasy. There are many levels to tgirls as a group from the much maligned hairy panty wearers, CD's TV's to TS. Are they all fantasists who should be kept behind closed doors when they just want to go about their daily lives as they wish.

Had a client when training that I did electrolysis on an she always asked for me although we were only supposed to work on clients onece and move onto another. I treated her just like anyone else where other girls sniggered behind her back and asked too personal questions. Although this person was a homafradite so a bit different to a tv or cd. |

protection from the sight of someone dressed differently, surely as parents its not beyond you to be able to explain to them if they should ask that the person dressed differently is just a person dressed differently..
when they're of an age to want to ask more etc one just deals with that..?

Men with clothes on...
Right.
So you are assuming that men who choose to wear woman's clothing are a threat to children. In what way are they a threat?
Are you suggesting I am a child molester because I enjoy wearing clothes? |

Don't let society dictate to you what is right and what is wrong. We all have an intrinsic moral code which we follow one way or another.
...you do as you please as to what you think is right.

Holy fuck I am shocked I just read that. I am a mother of a 7 and 13 year old and this is not something I would say they need protecting from. Far from it. They need educating to understand that people are different and these differences are not to be sniggered at, ridiculed but embraced and excepted.
Do you need to protect them from peopke with phsyical disabilities because they are different too then. I'm discussed in you and you should be ashamed of yourself |

Do you need to protect them from peopke with phsyical disabilities because they are different too then. I'm discussed in you and you should be ashamed of yourself" exactly this! |

I don't mean to sound offensive or sexist. But I disagree. Trousers started off as a masculine clothing and has gradually been stolen. I think this unfair. If I was to walk out the for in a skirt I would recieve ridicule like there's no tomorrow. Yet women are ok to wear masculine clothing?"
It's simply fashion, roman men wore skirts, and for many years the pioneer women who wore trousers put up with ridicule and name calling before it became acceptable, now it's fashionable for all in our culture.
Get on to the men's fashion mags and start to build your case. 50 years time it may be the norm. |

my opinion its best kept for behind closed doors if its a sexual fantasy thing! I wouldn't like you're sexual fantasies to be inflicted on children to see i'm public!! I don't understand the while idea of wanting to dress in ladies cloths and this is only my opinion
what are you on about..?
you think children will be somehow changed into what..?
its 2014 dude, not 1914.. a man wearing a leather mini skirt and belly top and you're kids see this and laugh at him !! and his offended at this!!
our kids are adults and tbh were they younger would like to think they would'nt laugh at someone different to them..
you seem to have gone from kids having something 'inflisted' upon them, not sure what your perception is of what that may be..
to not wanting folks 'laughed' at..?
our kids are NOT adults and need protection and its a parents responsibility to protect them
Protected from what????
Men with clothes on...
Right.
So you are assuming that men who choose to wear woman's clothing are a threat to children. In what way are they a threat?
Are you suggesting I am a child molester because I enjoy wearing clothes? "

I really enjoy a Tgirl night out and have sometimes wished the world was more accepting. It isn't though. I accept that.
I don't want to be a pioneer. I only came out to my lady as Bi a couple of years ago and that, for us, has been life changing. For the better I might add.
That's enough for us. |

"people are brought up with ideas and thoughts that their parents share with them.
some break free of this and become free thinking individuals that accept others for who they are and how they live their lives.
others prefer to stay in a nice safe environment without every having to step outside the box.
me, as long as its not illegal, immoral and no one else is getting hurt by their actions, then crack on with yourself." |

It is a real shame that people can't dress in the way that they're most comfortable without provoking stares and laughter or worse.
I suppose it needs brave people to rise above it and choose to carry on regardless of the opinions of others. But I fear it's a long long road before it becomes 'acceptable' to the ignorant majority |

We all got to start somewhere.
If it really matters to people then you endure the struggles. All issues, big and small, went through struggles. Stand and soon you'll see you're not alone. |

When I'm out and about in Glam mode, I tend to go out dressed fairly well, not looking like I should be on a street corner somewhere.
I don't tend to go out during the day and pop into Tesco glammed up, as I've no need to and whilst I'm not that bad in glam, I get more than one look due to my figure.
However, if I did get any unpleasant comments, I'd think it said more about their prejudices than about how I look.
Earlier, it was mentioned about someone protecting their kids from seeing a CD. I've actually bumped into a chap with his young daughter when I was out. I was a bit surprised as she was probably about 5 and it was about 21.30 in the middle of Nottingham. Dad never even clocked me, but his daughter gave me one look, then another, longer look, so I gave her a smile and she just smiled back and carried on walking. No dramas at all. |

Ohhhh the horror!!
I've taken the kids to Pride in Leeds and London. They loved the parades. Didn't bat an eye, just said what cool costumes. Introduced my mate (he was in female mode) and they treated her no different to any of my other mates.
Kids aren't born with prejudices. |

I totally agree - there is nothing here that kids need to be "protected" from! If there is any problem in that, then it is in a parent's inability to educate their children properly - "shame on anybody who see shame in it".
I'd be much happier if society could accept cross-dressing. In fact, I believe that it would further release women from strictures of "expected" dress sense. I dress day-to-day in unisex clothing because it's both more comfortable, and I don't have to worry about all that "style" rubbish!
Good luck to the OP - and I hope that you find a way to express yourself more! |

"OP agree with you apart from the jeans are male attire, they're simply a practical piece of clothing..

Actuall men haven't been wearing trousers all that long, it's a relatively recent fashion for them, they used to wear tights!
As for women being able to wear men's clothes and not get ridiculed try putting a women in actual men's clothes and send her out, there will be plenty of derisive sniggers.
Women wear similar clothes to men as in jeans, but they are womens style jeans. You can wear a man's style skirt and get away with it, it's called a kilt! |

"I am a crossdresser.
Your comments please
you can wear what you want! but you don't have to push your ideas of what you think is normal onto the general public!
I don't think its illegal to dress up asa woman in public? but to expect to be accepted by everyone! "
Why shouldn't criss dressers or tv's expect to be accepted by everyone? They're not asking you to partake or stealing your masculinity by wearing a dress. Your views on this thread seem very repressed. I bet you were one of the patents who complained about the disabled cbbc presenter as well |

I don't have a boy but if he had the confidence and wanted to do that then yes I would support his life choices.
My 13 year old hates wearing dresses and skirts she slouches in converse and ripped up jeans does this mean I should protect her younger sister from her and her boyish nature?
I'm almost embarrassed for you |

as a mother of four children, 2 of each, I've never pushed gender roles. both of my boys put on my clothes and makeup, played with dolls... and my younger one dressed in Disney princess dresses and had tea parties with the girls in his nursery class. both of my girls dressed up in daddys clothes, played with trucks and wrestled like demons. i never thought that they needed protection. they were simply exploring their budding personalities. ive also never seem the need to protect them from seeing others being true to who they are, unless those people were doing something illegal like drugs....or something like people having sex. tgirls was never an issue. |

You can wear what you like. I don't know why you would be annoyed at women wearing jeans. Jeans were invented as work wear, not for men. You should be annoyed at the people who not open minded and accepting of how others like to dress.

"Also. When women started to wear trousers there was outrage and disgust. It took time for it to become accepted but they persevered so now we can wear all manner of trousers, long and short "
Not only that but some schools make trousers for girls compulsory, with being summarily sent home for not complying. Weird. |

Women wearing trousers was originally seen as shocking. It took I think 15-20 years to be truly accepted and it's only fairly recently become the norm. Hopefully it won't be too long before men wearing women's clothes is no big deal either. I wear men's clothes sometimes, I'm quite fussy and sometimes can only find what I'm looking for in men's departments. Nobody's ever commented. Also as mother of a 13 year old, I absolutely don't think this is something she needs 'protected' from. She knows and understands I'm bisexual, we've been for meals/shopping in out local city's gay area n she doesn't bat an eyelid at gay people being affectionate or seeing cd tv or ts's she knows they're just people, just like us with lives and families and feelings. She also tells her peers off if they say bigoted things n she hates the whole 'that's so gay' comments. Live n let live, nobody who dresses differently is doing anyone any harm. I remember my mum struggling through b'ham with my sis n I as little kids on trains to Scotland, she was helped with luggage etc by punk rockers, skinheads, goths etc u can't judge people till you know them |
