Dave Lee Travis to face retrial
Jump to: Newest in thread
I've been listening to this on the radio today, and it kind of unsettles me a bit. It looks like because the jury were unable to reach a verdict, they are going to do it again. Not once have I heard anyone say that new evidence has been uncovered, so if the CPS is unable to present a good enough case to convince a jury in the first place, why should they be permitted to try again (and again, and again, and again...) with the same hand they were dealt with in the first place? Until they stumble on a jury prepared to give them the verdict they are after?
Is it me, or does all this smell somewhat? |

"its not again and again and again is it? i thought they had 2 more cases that weren't tried in the original trial?"
My point being, if they can have a retrial with no new evidence, what's to actually stop them from doing it again and again and again? |

True. It's not as though public funding for such trials is a bottomless pit is it?
Good luck with finding a jury who are unaware of prior matters though. |

No, they were two charges that the jury couldn't decide on. |

Here's a thought.
If the CPS fail a second time to gain their desired "Guilty" verdict, should they lose their jobs?
Natural justice would say they should.

just because he sounds nice and cuddly doesnt make him innocent of molesting women .. i know its his word against theirs but if he made their working life difficult because he was a big name and they had to put up with him . he deserves to be brought to book .. the problem is he wont be able to work and has lost money through the allegations so even if he clears his name his life is now in ruins |

Have not followed the case word by word, but the gist I've gained (and it may be wrong) is that if he is found guilty millions of people from the 1970's who might back pinched a bum in an office might be at risk of being charged.

These were not the serious rape allegations that other celebs were charged with. These are more akin to harassment which even nowadays are more a disciplinary issue at work rather than a court case. I don't see how it is in the public interest to continue with these two charges when he has been cleared on the others. |

not having seen the case for the prosecution relating specifically to the 2 charges he will be retried for can only surmise that the cps still deem it to be worthy of pushing it..
could be face saving on their behalf, would like to think not..
