Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I had to have my box changed this morning. I've lost all of my recordings and, more significantly, all of my series links.

I'll cope but I was surprised when the engineer said people normally cry when he tells them there is no option but to change the box and they will lose everything. Of course, I may start crying when I try and remember everything I watch and try and set up the wish list.

What relatively trivial thing would make you cry if lost?

It would seem so. It makes me sound quite sane when I hear things like this.

I don't drink tea - I do have chocolate biscuits. I will have to break into that box soon or they will be out of date.

I lost the photos on my tablet before Christmas. That was a bit sad as they were mainly of the kids and they will never be that age again.

This exactly, mine for some reason messed up the other day. Would even let me open it. Had no choice but to reboot. I have so many precious pics. I lost the lot. I would have been distraught, but this is one occasion when I can thank Fbk

I can understand a child crying, just, but not adults.

I'm OK if I lose my phone/tablet/PC.

Luckily I got into "the cloud" really early. My flickr account has photos from 2006 on it.

My music is stored on Google play music, docs on Google docs.

And I even have a backup of the backup stored on dropbox.

My Own Little World

I've had to wipe the hard drive on my Sky+ a few times, it is a right bugger remembering what programmes you record and what day.

Raspberry Pi is a sort of build it yourself computer thingy. I'm buying one for one of the boys for his birthday.

I really don't understand why they can't run a cable between the old box and the new one and just transfer the data.

No as these days can watch most things on your laptop/iPad etc

Plus we barely watch TV.

Basically, its a small computer that costs about £50. Add XBMC to turn your tv into a media center. Add another programme to stream "cough cough" tv and movies

Search "raspberry pi xbmc xunity"

Personally, I've been playing with "Mikey's Karaoke" that uses the same karaoke provider as pubs do, Sunfly

The storage required for that would be enormous, so it would be something they will offer as a paid service at some point in the future I'm sure.

That's why it is handy to have more than one device on the go at the same time haha

Back it up to the iCloud

I broke an iphone and had to have a new handset. I restored the new phone using the cloud and it put it back to EXACTLY how my old handset was - photos, music, apps..the lot! It even restored the last web pages I was browsing on the old handset before it broke

I cried once when I logged into an old yahoo photos account to find they'd switched to something or other and now only the 50 mostrrecent pics were available. Even saving those elsewhere and deleting didn't make the next 50 appear. Was gutted.

I lost my iPhone (Xmas party say no more!!) hadn't backed upto The Cloud for ages & I was pretty distraught at the thought of all my photos, apps, music etc etc that I'd lost

However when I eventually got a new iPhone & synced it with iTunes everything except some text messages were restored!

Apple stuff is amazing!!
