Really there can only be one song.

Lili Marlene.

Originally a German love song, (hated by the Nazis but that they were unable to suppress), that kept vermark troops fighting in WW2. First translated into English and adopted by the Desert Rats when they heard it in 1941. Then taken up by both the Americans and the Japanese.

Eventually used as the plot and title of a film in the 50s and then remade in the 80s.

Outshines White Christmas in my _iew because of its international appeal.

For me, Kashmir by Led Zep.

This gal loves a great build up.

Although Ballad of Dorothy Parker by Prince a very close second.

Matty Groves by Steeleye Span.

It tells a great story and it is Sandy Denny at her best.

Louis Armstrong - what a wonderful world.

Played at my FIL's funeral, it raised a lot of smiles and still does to this day when I hear it

Lou Pride ' iam coming home in the morning' .

Like so many black American artists of his time who were undervalued and never received the recognition they deserved. He is a true musical genius. For Northern Soul fans, he has to be one of the best. KTF

Moondream Meadow Allegory by Sky Cries Mary. Because it is amazingly rhythmic and psychedelic, and because no one else has ever heard of it before.

Is it me? Did I misunderstand the what this thread is about?

I thought it was about the best song of all time. Not my favourite song or the song that has most emotional significance to me...

Because it seems that most posts here are this is my favourite song or this is the song that has most emotional significance to me.

Forgive my AS literal use of language but I think I have a valid point.

If it is my favorite song, then to me it is the greatest song of all time. Anything else would just be the most popular song of all time.

It's all down to personal taste .

I suppose you need to look at sales so anything on bat out hell, dark side of the moon, thriller (cringes), a day at the races, could qualify.

And no for all you under 20s the best song ever by whatever they are called is not the best song ever!!

I would like to say +1 on both of these but if I had only one song left to listen to ever it would have to be any one of about half a dozen off Fleetwood Macs Rumours album - one of the most haunting, sad, beautiful albums of all time.

It's not valid at all because there is no such thing as the best song ever, it's all based on individual opinion. Therefore your point is of little significance...

Louis Armstrong - what a wonderful world, for the bith of my daughters.

Simon and Garfunkel - Homeward bound, because I used to be away a lot.

He Who Would Valiant Be, is my funural committal song...
