Which one???
The fake one about charging for messages on a Saturday morning
Or the fake one about sending a message to all your contacts or they will
Disable your account
Or the fake one about charging to send messages at 30p each???
Or..... You get my point? |

I got it earlier from my son in law and explained to him pronto that it stank of a scam and there was a chance if it changed the icon on his phone it may contain a virus...
Needless to say I deleted it |

These messages have been doing the rounds a couple of times a year since I got the app ages ago. Funnily enough nothings come of it.
I knew when it got sold to Facebook that they'd start up again. |

"It's bollocks any changes regarding your phone bill come from your network provider in writing Keep calm it's only what's app anyway "
its not a change in your phone bill though is it, whatsapp can charge whatever they like and its got sod all to do with your network provider although whatsapp would have to contact you directly if they change anything, not rely on random acquaintances to let you know lol |

As per Evie's post above, it's an app, not a network service. You'd be charged for it at the app store, not by your 'phone provider. |

"It's all garbage, however I wouldn't expect to take long for Facebook messenger to be integrated into it for one chat platform across both formats"
I don't use Whatsapp very much, some occasional messaging but mainly for the transmission/sending of pics.
However, the start of any integration programme with FB and I'll be off! |

I've already uninstalled it. I'll wait and see what they do. |

How can they charge you for something you
already have at the app store? You would not need to buy it again to be charged.
The message I got mentioned billing. But either way it makes no diffrence the message is a hoax. |

i dont think it would be through the app store but it certainly has nothing to do with your network provider but the point is moot anyway as they arent starting to charge as you say |

They just change the service so the free version stops working and you have to pay to activate it again, or download a new version from the app store (and pay for it).
The bit on the phone is only the front end. They can switch the back end part off if they like and make people pay for a new front end. |

They could easily disable the existing version and release a new one which has to be downloaded and paid for. |

This is true but nobody has to then purchase the new version. I did'nt pay for it to begin with so I would not now especially as facebook now own it. |

They have no way to charge anyone without permission, via the appshop or otherwise. |
